And good morning im dave clark. Its a friday. Its april 26th and rosemary has some sunshine for you today. Just trust me i know rosemary. Yes. Although it might look better than it feels when youre outside. Right. We have a little bit of sunshine coming our way, as you said, dave. Good morning to both of you. Good. Happy friday everybody. But we have the wind that we are expecting as well. So its going to be a little pesky out there giving you a look here over San Francisco where we are starting out with the partly to mostly cloudy skies and we do have scattered showers in the forecast for the first part of the day, and then drying out for the second half with increase in the wind. Right now, temperatures in the low to mid to upper 50s a cool one in santa rosa at 50 degrees. Not so bad in san jose at 58. Storm tracker two there pointing out a few sprinkles. It looks like over the Higher Elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountain area, as well as the east bay shore and over towards the santa clara hills. Seeing a few sprinkles, the snow in the sierra going to remain here for the first half of the day as well, with snow levels about 6000ft for us, well break away to the partly cloudy skies. The increase in winds and temperatures for the afternoon slightly below average. Ill have a better breakdown of today and the warm up expected for the weekend. Coming up in just a bit at 701. Checking on the highways this morning with sal. Good morning sal. Rosemary good morning to you. The top story in traffic has been the bay bridge. We had a stalled vehicle up there near Treasure Island for a bit, and it really did a surprise number on the bay bridge commute just because normally on a friday we dont have a big backup, but the lanes are blocked for a long enough time that we did have a problem there. You can see that the traffic seems like its a thursday or a wednesday and not a friday. The good news is theyve opened up the lanes. However, its going to take a while for the traffic to unwind. The rest of the traffic around the bay does look friday light 880 heading north and south. The south bay commute the peninsula. Well check in on those in just a little bit. But now at 702, lets go right back to the headlines and well get an update now on that developing story in San Francisco, as crews now have the upper hand on what was, for a time, a raging fire that gutted a four story residential building. The two alarm fire was burning on clay street at lyon, not far from the Presidio Branch library, the Fire Department says. When crews arrived, the building was engulfed in flames. Now, at this point, the fire is for the most part out and crews are putting out hot spots. They say no one was legally living in the building. The fire did not spread to neighboring buildings. Our time now 702. The family of an east bay man whos now on life support is demanding, demanding answers after an incident earlier this month at a park in oakland. They say deonte faison was tased by east Bay Regional Park Police officers back on april 5th while he was in the water at the Martin Luther king junior regional shoreline. The familys lawyer says faison had jumped into the water after being stopped by police, and he was tased in the back when he tried to swim away. It shouldnt take an attorney to tell you that electricity and water dont mix. Were bold enough to do that, but not brave enough to jump in and save them. Now, faisons lawyer says he struggled in the water for up to 30 minutes before he lost consciousness. The Park DistrictOfficials Say they dont comment on pending lawsuits. Well, california lawmakers are demanding an update from the bureau of prisons after the decision that closed down the scandal ridden womens prison in dublin. Now, senators alex padilla and Laphonza Butler sent a letter to the director of the bureau calling for immediate information about the efforts to give inmates, quote, care, dignity and respect to which they are entitled. The bureau says its addressing all of the inmates needs with compassion during this transfer process, the mayors of the bay areas three largest cities are sending an urgent message to state leaders in sacramento. Theyre calling on Governor Newsom and other state lawmakers to avoid cuts to californias services for people who are homeless. The mayors of san jose, oakland and San Francisco are joining other city leaders in calling on the state to dedicate one dollars billion to help local governments manage the crisis. These calls come at a time the state is facing a massive budget deficit. Time now 704 pg and e just released its latest profit report. Now between january and march, the First Quarter of 2024, pg and e said it had a profit of 732 million, up more than 28 compared to the same quarter last year. That increase in profit comes during a frustrating time for customers because of skyrocketing monthly bills, with more rate increases coming on the way. Now, pg and e ceo patty poppy defends the companys rate hikes, telling the chronicle theyre necessary to help the company continue new spending on wildfire prevention and modernize its electric grid. Rates are increasing 13 this year, but are projected to actually decrease by 3 in 2025, poppy says the company is committed to keeping future annual bill increases to between 2 and 4. Our time is now 705 at Stanford University. Protest tents are up this morning. Stanford is the latest school where propalestinian demonstrators are occupying the campus. The movement started last week at Columbia University. It has spread across the country at both public and private colleges and universities. Now at uc berkeley, a propalestinian protest continues. There are tents set up at sproul plaza. So far, its been a peaceful protest. In less than three weeks, the Spring Semester at cal will be ending. Uc Officials Say they dont plan to change their Investment Policies or practices, which the protesters are demanding. Down in los angeles, ucla has tents set up by hundreds of protesters. The encampment also has a library, medical tent and a desk for where the media can check in. Last night there was a counter protest. No injuries reported and no arrests were made. We are here because we have a set of demands, including divestment with our university in ucla. I think this is a shame, shame that Ucla Administration is allowing this to happen at usc. Its canceled its main Graduation Ceremony, with administrators saying that new Safety Measures on campus mean it would not be possible to process the 65,000 people who usually attend the event. Usc campus has been closed to the general public since wednesday, when 93 protesters were arrested during a propalestinian protest. Only students, faculty members and employees are allowed on campus. The San FranciscoUnified School District has two Community Sessions set for tomorrow the saturday meetings are meant to give parents a chance to discuss the districts plan to close or merge some of the districts schools. Tomorrows sessions follow a virtual town hall meeting last night in which the superintendent, doctor matt wayne, responded to a range of questions, many parents said they were concerned the district would target smaller schools in the city. If we had said our commitment was to have the same number of students in every school, well, then we could just say, well, were going to have, you know, in every school has 1000 students. Well, then its really easy, right . Wed have 49 schools, but were not going to do that because that does not align with our commitment to a variety of school sizes. The School Superintendent said the cuts are necessary due to a growing budget deficit, but he says the district still has not determined exactly how many schools may have to close tomorrows meetings are being held at sheridan elementary and roosevelt middle school. There will be five more inperson meetings next week. Time is 708 today. Well see rounds two and three of the nfl draft in detroit. Round one brought a lot of anticipation for football fans here in the bay area. Ktvu baglio carroll live here with the story, including the north bay football star who is heading to the raiders. Bailey good morning garcia. Yeah, 32 Football Players had their dreams realized about 12 hours ago when they got that anticipated phone call and then heard their name called by nfl commissioner roger goodell. And that includes, of course, that bay area native that garcia just mentioned, brock bowers. Now, bowers grew up in napa. He is heading to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Las Vegas Raiders select brock bowers, tight end, georgia bowers attended redwood middle school, and then he played High School Ball at napa before heading to georgia, where he played in college. And it wasnt too long ago that the raiders called oakland home. And when bowers was a kid here in the bay, he actually went to their Training Camps as a fan. Of course, his role will change dramatically heading forward now. Last night, his alma mater held a Draft Viewing Party at the gym at napa high. There were kids of all ages there. We caught up with his High School Coach who said brock has really done things the right way since day one, and spoke to us about how important this moment is to this Napa Community. Its huge, man. It means everything. It represents our school, you know, and Napa Community is were tight knit people, man. Were all going to be cheering for them. Theyre going to sell a lot of raider jerseys, ill tell you that much. The San Francisco 40 in celebrations while celebrations were going on in napa for bowers. Niners fans awaiting their selection in the first round of the draft. Well, they took wide receiver ricky parsell out of florida with the 31st pick. Both deebo samuel, though, and ed Brandon Aiyuk are at least as of now, still niners. So many fans are asking, well, why did they take a receiver . Its likely a way for the niners to start planning ahead for the future. As speculation grows surrounding ba and debos futures in santa clara, though, the niners have said that it is unlikely that they will trade either a guy. So that also means its unlikely that parsell will be a starter this season. Now as garcia mentioned, the second and third round of the draft are today. The niners have the 63rd overall pick in the second round and the 94th in the third round. Back to you. All right. Thank you. Bailey. Time is 710. Members of a group in San Francisco took matters into their own hands, with the goal of improving safety for bicyclists and pedestrians. They installed new signs on a popular bike route. The crosstown bike route, called the wiggle, has streets marked with green bike route signs on the pavement where cars and bicycles share the road now zigzags for a mile from the mission to the haight. Members of the group safe street rebel drilled official looking signs into the median on tuesday without city approval, warning drivers to yield to pedestrians and bikes. Members of the group spoke to us but didnt want us to show their faces. We really feel like sfmta needs to step up and just really drastically improve street safety. Sfmta tells ktvu while it appreciates the push for safer streets, the citys efforts are guided by engineering best practices and carrying out thorough reviews of feasibility and effectiveness for new or proposed roadway signs. The signs were not legal. They have been removed. All right, our time is 715 Community Members in San Francisco celebrating the creation of a car free space in Golden Gate Park.
