Theres some out there. So if your commute includes 80, i think youll encounter a little bit. Another robust, large and in charge fog bank and temps about in line with what we thought yesterday. At least me 60, 70. I dont see much change, although it does look a little warmer tomorrow. Mr. Sal castaneda is here at 4 00 in the morning. 4 00 in the morning. Oh my goodness, its early. Probably as good as its going to be. The only thing that i would worry about is going too fast. The chp is out there, of course, and just take it easy, but for the most part, its a nice looking drive across the bay area, including in the south bay. So were off to a good start on a friday. Its 401. Lets go back to the headlines. All right. Thank you sal. Today uc berkeley expects to announce any charges for 12 people arrested at a protest and building takeover near the school. Football star Law Enforcement responded from about 20 different agencies, including campus police, chp and californias office of emergency services, as officers cleared out the university owned vacant building that was taken over by propalestinian demonstrators. There were no visible clashes, but protesters threw trash and scrawled graffiti. Now, police in riot gear formed a perimeter in the area and workers quickly came in and dismantled the camp. The 12 people who were arrested will likely be charged on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and vandalism. Uc berkeley says it considers this occupation a crime, not free speech. The administration also plans to disclose the affiliations of those arrested. Our time is 402. In person classes at uc irvine will be back this morning after classes were held remotely because of a tense standoff between police and propalestine protesters. Now, the protesters were ordered to leave in encampment after it was declared an unlawful assembly. 47 people were arrested, including students, uci employees and people not affiliated with the school for not leaving the campus after classes were held remotely yesterday. Normal classes will be held today with extra police on the campus. New this morning, trucks carrying humanitarian aid for palestinians in the gaza strip have rolled across a pier built by the us for the first time. Todays shipment is the first in an operation that American Military Officials Say could handle up to 150 truckloads a day. Meanwhile, in washington, dc, House Republicans voted to pass a bill to reverse President Bidens freeze on sending a shipment of weapons to israel as it plans to invade the Southern Gaza city of rafah. Democrats are calling the bill a political stunt by republicans, as President Biden defies the will of congress with his use of executive privilege. He is brazenly doing so by withholding congressionally mandated aid. Everything it calls for. The administration is already doing. And it is just yet another example of the republicans using israel and antisemitism for their own political purposes. Every day you can say you made the Senate Majority leader, Chuck Schumer says the senate will not take up the legislation. And the white house has already said President Biden would veto the bill if it makes it to his desk. Now our coverage of the war in gaza, as well as the protests here in the bay area, continues online on our website, ktvu. Com. Time is now 404. She says the thief took from her bedroom to carry out the jewelry they stole from her to just bust in my home and take my things like, its no problem. Its terrifying. Its frustrating. Monday through wednesday. Really . Neighbor matt albert yelled out at the thieves as he witnessed the break in and the thieves driving away. They were certainly not put off by somebody seeing them commit a crime. It seems like this was kind of a normal practice for them. Jeffers tells me. This gold necklace with a heart, with the word mom. A gift from her son, was among the 10,000 worth of jewelry that was stolen from her armoire. She says she was at work when she received a phone alert. I feel like theres nothing i can do. All the security i put on and the warning signs, and they dont care. Neighbors suspect that their close proximity to highways 13 and 580 make it attractive for thieves. Looking for a quick getaway . Can you call 911 . Neighbors say there have been numerous car break ins and now brazen burglaries in broad daylight. What is the next step . You know, theyre just getting bolder in their actions. Neighbors want the city to install license plate readers and assign beat officers. Theyre going to come in at night on us and whos going to stop it . Like, when is it going to stop . Im very anxious right now. I feel violated, of course, witnesses tell me this is the suspect vehicle, a black bmw sedan. They described the suspects as being young, late teens to early 20s. They have their faces covered. I reached out to Oakland Police. They would only confirm that three homes on that block have been burglarized in oakland. Amber lee, ktvu, fox two news. Thank you. That company repairs equipment for national labs, aerospace and semiconductor companies. I wish i knew we both happen to be in very highly specified fields, and it is a strange coincidence that we both get hit back to back on the same night. The thieves rammed one of the cars into the garage door, but couldnt get in because a forklift was parked behind the door. Ktvu has learned that the car used was stolen and later recovered by antioch police. Nothing was stolen in either attempted break in from those businesses. Time is 408. Construction is well underway on the merced to bakersfield stretch, but still years away for service to begin.
