NBC5'S BRANDON MENARD TELLS US ABOUT THE PROJECT, AND HOW THEY'RE WORKING TO PRESERVE THE MAGIC! THE OLYMPIC CENTER IN LAKE PLACID IS UNDER RENOVATION! IT'S A PART OF A ROUGHLY 80- MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT FUNDED BY THE STATE. TAKE SOT: (0:17) Terry Buczkowski - General Manager, Olympic Center - There's a lot of effort that's gone into upkeep and keeping the buildings running since the '80 games. But they haven't really had a major overhaul. Now this is the opportunity that we've got and that's what we're doing. We're revitalizing the entire venue to be honest with you. SOME OF THE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE MODERNIZING THE 1932 AND 1980 RINKS WITH THINGS LIKE NEW LOCKER ROOMS AND A REFIGERATION PLANT. IT'LL ALSO COVER A COMPLETE REDO OF THE OUTSIDE SPEED SKATING OVAL AND THE "LINK" INSIDE THE FACILITY. BUT AT THE TOP OF THEIR GOALS IS PRESERVING THE OLYMPIC MAGIC. one of the main reasons why people come to Lake Placid and specifically to the Olympic Center here in the Village is because of the game that was held here and all the other Olympic sports that came through here. FOR THE LAKE PLACID MAYOR, ART DEVLIN, HE BELIEVES THE IMPROVEMENTS WILL BRING MORE PEOPLE TO THE REGION.
