GRETNA, Va. â A passing shower stopped just in time for the 2021 Memorial Day service offered by Gretna American Legion Post 232 on Sunday afternoon at the graveyard behind Trinity Episcopal Church in Gretna. Post 232 Commander A. W. Younger welcomed the sizable crowd that turned out for this annual service that was not held for the first time last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. âThis day is sacred with the almost invisible presence of those who have gone before us. We honor the memory of those who gave their lives in the service of our country and of those others who dropped their burdens by the wayside of life, and are gone to their eternal rest,â he said. âMay this day of service today deepen our reverence of our departed friends and comrades. Let us renew our pledge of loyalty to our country and its flag. Let us resolve by word and deed to emphasize the privilege and duty of patriotism.â
