Share Updated: 6:45 PM CDT Jul 30, 2021 Republican House Speaker Philip Gunn said lawmakers will take up legislation to prevent Mississippi public schools from teaching Critical Race Theory.The curriculum teaches that racism is rooted in laws and policies already in place by the U.S.Lawmakers in more than 20 states have undertaken efforts to stop CRT from entering their classrooms. Some believe if the curriculum is taught in schools, then it will cause division between races.Another state that the curriculum teaches the truth about American history. "We need to find ways to bring people together not them apart. what we should not do is allow our educational system to teach one racist matter than another, those days in Mississippi are behind us. such teachings have no place in our schools," said Representative Philip Gunn, House Speaker."Some may actually oppose it because they tend to sanitize issues related to race," said Dr. D'Andra Orey, Jackson State Political Science Professor. "Well it is extremely for students as well as young adults because it is apart of the socialization process when students are not aware of the actual facts they tend to purpurate a system."Gov. Tate Reeves announced last month that he opposed teaching Critical Race Theory in schools.
