Lawrence Mercer counties get community UPMC COVID vaccine clinics

At least not until now.
Healthcare giant UPMC has opened up community COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Lawrence and Mercer counties and, unlike the earliest days of vaccine distributions, patients don't need a computer to find an appointment.
Instead, representatives from the healthcare system began calling patients age 90 and older to see if they wanted an appointment and to help them schedule at one of three clinics being held each week.
"Our approach is really an outreach-based approach, " said Kevin MacDonald, director of operations for UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon. "We recognize that individuals were struggling to navigate the complexity and difficulty of the websites that are out there for various different clinics and, not to mention, the elderly population that may not even have computer access or internet access or individuals that can help them connect."
