The lawsuit comes after recent gun legislation passed through the General Assembly. The suit claims that the virtual nature of the proceedings did not allow for a fair and open process. Named defendants in the lawsuit are leaders from both parties, including Bethany Hall-Long, in her capacity as president of the Senate; Senate Pro Tempore David Sokola; Senate Majority Leader Bryan Townsend (whose name is misspelled as "Brian" in the suit); Minority Leader Gerald Hocker; Majority Whip Pete Schwartzkopf (whose last name is missing a "z" in the suit); and six other lawmakers.
