LECTURERS at a college in central Scotland began a two-day walkout today in a dispute over the downgrading of lecturers’ posts. Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland’s Further Education Lecturers’ Association (EIS-FELA) at Forth Valley College will continue strike action tomorrow over the replacement of skilled lecturer posts at the site. The college has reportedly introduced instructor assessor positions to replace lecturers, sparking concerns over changes to the quality of teaching and staff’s terms and conditions. Similar disputes have been resolved at national level, but concerns remain at Forth Valley. EIS general secretary Larry Flanagan said: “FELA have been putting forward pragmatic proposals to end the dispute and these have been thwarted by college management.
