Letter: A different view of HB 233 Published: 3/5/2021 12:30:16 PM In an opinion piece by Dr. Oge Young (Monitor, March 2) regarding HB 233, the “Born Alive Protection Act,” he claims that if this bill becomes law, it would intrude on the rights of parents and on their providers, taking away precious moments of a mother with a dying baby to force on them unreasonable, futile, and unwanted medical care. Actually, the wording of the bill says “reasonable and appropriate medical care” to those infants born alive, and the stated intent of the bill is for the survivors of late term abortion. Certainly, this means that this care not go to ridiculous extremes as Dr. Young seems to suggest. Instead, it’s to prevent babies from just being left to die who have a chance of survival.
