The Sun Inn was situated at 7 Maidenburgh Street. This pub was present before 1764 and closed in 1979. It followed the well-trodden ownership route from Colchester Brewing Company to Ind Coope in the 1930s. It is now in use as a private residence. Seeing mention of the old Maidenburgh Street, Sun public house brought back many happy memories (Gazette, December 7, “Reader John has fond memories of his parents running the Six Bells pub”). When we worked in the ECN Creative Studio, my work mate, Paul Pugh, and I would sometimes pop in for a pint during our lunch break. The publican was a real character who kept ferrets and often appeared with one whilst at the bar.
