Letters to editor: Disappointed in first responders who didn't get COVID vaccine Akron Beacon Journal First responders need more info After reading the Jan. 9 article “Opting out of vaccine: 60% of local EMS workers decline first dose for COVID-19,” I am deeply concerned and would expect more from first responders. These are adults (not “kids” as stated by Macedonia Fire Chief Brian Ripley) who have gone through training to do a job with the huge responsibility of serving others as first responders. Proper education is key. Kudos to the city of Stow for having the department’s medical director speak with first responders about the vaccine so they could make an informed decision. This article stated Stow has an 80% vaccination rate. All departments should be doing this. It is important to have access to someone who can provide valid facts and the science behind the vaccine, along with the ability to address questions and concerns.
