LifeServe Blood Center said it will start phasing out convalescent plasma donations due to the few people with COVID-19 in Iowa hospitals. LifeServe said it plans to pause the convalescent plasma program after March 20, saying it has a strong inventory already collected. The blood center said it will continue collecting plasma from people who have had COVID-19 if needed in the future. A spokesperson with LifeServe released the following statement to KCCI: "We are planning to put a pause on our convalescent plasma program after March 20. We have a strong inventory locally and nationwide so most centers are slowing down their collections. We say we’re pausing it because if the need arises again, we will be sure to start collecting more as needed. The need for convalescent plasma has been going down which is great! So our focus is more on red cells and platelets at this point."
