Dozens killed and many injured as typhoon leaves a trail of death and destruction in the philippines. Anchor welcome to the program. The u. S. President has spoken publicly for the First Time Since his election lost to joe biden. During his press conference, donald trump updated americans on his response to the coronavirus pandemic but inched closer to acknowledging he may not be leaving the countrys next administration. Until now, trump has alleged voter fraud and claimed without evidence to have won the president ial election. According to some estimates, National Lockdown cost 50 billion a day and hundreds of thousands of jobs every single day. Ideally, we wont go to a lockdown. This administration will not be going to a lockdown. Hopefully whatever happens in the future, who knows which administration it will be . I guess time will tell. But i can tell you this administration will not go to a lockdown. Anchor more than a week after election day, the state of North Carolina has been called for trump. Hell hold onto his Electoral College votes. Thats significantly less than in 2016, when he won by 3. 6 Percentage Points over hillary clinton. With North Carolina called for trump, heres the current state of the race. Hes got 232 Electoral College votes, way behind president elect joe biden, who now has 290. Meanwhile, the state of georgia is continuing its hand tally of ballots cast for the election. They are being recounted as required by law, not because of alleged voter fraud. Georgias secretary of state says it must be audited because joe biden is only in the lead by a tight margin. He has already secured the presidency without counting those votes. Lets get the latest from washington, d. C. The president was steadfast in his position and putting on a brave front, with no indication of a concession. Allen well, alan well, he came pretty close to acknowledging his time in the white house is over and not thinking about what was coming out, when he stopped himself from saying the next administration. What is interesting, as well, is donald trump, who has been the most accessible president in modern times, someone who stops on his way to the helicopter a lot, who stops at various events and will talk to the media, when he was questioned, he didnt stop to take those questions. And thats been a pattern weve seen from the Trump Campaign over the last week or so, that a lot of times theyre saying theyre holding these news conferences, the journalists go along, they make statements, and then walk away without taking questions at all. I think another acknowledgment that the Trump Campaign, the Trump White House is getting close to acknowledging that they have lost the election is that for monday, joe biden will start receiving the daily intelligence refreeze, something block Intelligence Briefings, something blocked by the trump administration. Heres another thing happening to the Trump Campaign. Theyre losing Important Court battles they lost one in georgia, one in michigan, one in pennsylvania. They have lawyers who have resigned from the campaign. They say theyre not going to take that on anymore. And the little things, the cases the Trump Campaign built up, falling apart, just one example in georgia, they named a woman who they say had died and voted. Local tv station knocked on her door. She was there. She did vote. She voted for joe biden. Things like that undermine the credibility of these cases. Anchor and the discussion on the political front is veering to National Security, the need for joe biden to be in the loop. The pressure is on republicans to do the right thing for the country and not for trump. Alan and theyre aware of the 9 11 report. We talked about this. The 9 11 report said there was a problem because in 2000, as the gore bush case made it through the courts, there was a disconnect from george bush getting those intelligence reports, and there was a gap that could have caused a problem. And no one wants to see that sort of gap emerging again. But there was also the added problem, as well, of covid. Joe biden is pretty smart, pretty plugged in. Hes got relationships with World Leaders all across the globe. And well know whats going on. This team is very switched on and plugged in, and they will be able to feed him a lot of information. But nothing replaces the daily Intelligence Briefings because thats coming from the cia, the fbi, all the intelligence gathering apparatus that the United States has around the world, and identifies particular threats to the u. S. On that day. So by getting this briefing on monday, that will help joe biden. There is no doubt he will be qualified to walk into the white house on day one. He knows what a situation room is. He knows who to call in the event of a National Security emergency. But getting that information is vital for him and his team. Its just another sign that one week after the election was called for joe biden, donald trump is slowly moving towards the idea of acceptance. What is interesting is, you can probably hear the noise behind me, people out in front of the white house every single day since the election was called. This time, were seeing more Trump Supporters because there was a number of rallies planned for washington, d. C. On saturday. The president said he might pop out and say hello. That might be a problem because im sure his secret Service Detail wouldnt be overly keen on the idea. Not only that, secret service is down in numbers because a lot of them went to trump rallies and they are now either in quarantine or recovering from covid19. Anchor alan fisher in washington, d. C. , thank you. The United Nations says is concerned were crimes may have been committed in ethiopia in fighting the Ethiopian Military and regional forces. The tenday conflict has killed hundreds of people. Thousands have fled to suit on. The print sued on sudan. The Prime Minister accuse them of treason and terrorism. We have more from the Northern City of gonder, near the region. This fighting, which has had not let up since it started about nine days ago, has caused massive casualties, and the civilian casualties are being witnessed in some parts of the region. Ive not given any confidence to the people. They are overly already 100,000 people who are displaced within the region even before the conflict started. And the worst massacre happened 100 kilometers from where we are right now, in a small town. Of course, the government is blaming the fighters for these killings of people, most done through beheadings, using all kinds of crude weapons. But on this evening, the leader held, released a message where he said that it was not his forces who carried out this massacre and said that there was need for independent inquiry into the killings. Of course, the government is claiming huge victories in the western part of the tigre region, particularly areas near the border. Today, they claimed they have taken a town and have their sites on the capital. The Prime Minister says this is going to be a very quick operation. But when you look at how heavily armed both sides are, it looks like its going to be a protracted war, and that is what is causing concern for many people. And the main fear is that this conflict is going to have ramifications far beyond the borders of ethiopia. Anchor a 30 year ceasefire in morocco could be in jeopardy. A proindependence group has blocked a main road and the army has moved in to stop them. They are reporting fighting and say morocco has ignited war. The countrys authorities deny any fighting. The group wants Western Sahara to be independent. Marcus Prime Minister describes some of the measures taken after the government held an emergency meeting to address the situation. This road is important when it comes to the movement of civilians and goods, and because such actions were a violation of the unsponsored ceasefire agreement. Morocco ordered its military forces to intervene and build a barrier to protect the area from future breaches. The operation has been finished safely as we abided by the principle of not entering in any confrontation with other forces. We built the barrier for kilometers away from the locations. Anchor who are they . They are a Liberation Movement made up from ethnic harleys, aimed at driving the moroccan presence out of the Western Sahara. They say the former spanish colony is their homeland and have pushed for independence for decades. Morocco claims its theres. The two sides reached a ceasefire in 1991. More than two thirds of the region is controlled by morocco. A planned referendum on its status has not taken place. Neighbors have called on both sides to exercise restraint. Algeria is the main supporter and many refugees from the region live in algeria. The u. N. Secretary general says hes committed to ensuring the decades old ceasefire is respected. The u. N. Is deeply concerned about the situation and Western Sahara, territories that used to be a spanish colony, where there have been u. N. Personnel based for 29 years, originally sent their for a referendum that sent there for a referendum that never took place. This is a comment from the spokesperson. The secretarygeneral remains committed to doing its utmost to prevent the collapse of a ceasefire that has taken place since 1991. It is determined to do Everything Possible to remove all obstacles to the resumption of the political process. The u. N. Mission is committed to continuing to implementing its mandate and the secretarygeneral calls on the parties to provide full freedom of movement in accordance with its mandate. While al jazeera obtained a copy of the letter from the head of the front to the u. N. Secretary general, they were supposed to have a phone call taking place about now, a phone call thats been torpedoed by these latest development. Its also worth telling you that the u. N. Normally has an envoy for Western Sahara known as the personal rresentative. That job has not been filled for 18 months. The u. N. Says thats not the fault of the secretarygeneral. Needs to find the right candidate, but also get agreement from the un security council. And certainly in this letter, theres a call from the Polisario Front to meet. Im told no meeting is scheduled. Anchor the Polisario Front representative joins me now live from valencia in spain via skype. Mr. Omar, thanks for joining us. According to the moroccan authorities, the polisario, or its malicious, in any shape malicious, militias, in any shape or form, what is the position as far as youre concerned . Well, the fact of the matter is that we have a group of civilians who have been protesting peacefully and nonviolently, as confirmed by the United Nations. They are in an area in the Western Sahara on a road that was built illegally by morocco, and engaging in peaceful protests. But today, the moroccan authorities, the military forces moved into the gaza strip in flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement and attacked those civilians with brutal force. And that was a very serious breach of the ceasefire agreement that we have with them. So we have a situation where you have civilians protesting nonviolently, and then a Massive Force attacking them using all kinds of violence. The polisario had to respond in the south of france. Anchor very difficult to independently verify both sides of the story, though of course one wonders why so much force would be sent to the south of Western Sahara if its just civilians protesting. Guest indeed. And i am not just saying that moroccan forces attack on civilians. Moroccan authorities themselves have said so publicly. Morocco has publicly and officially acknowledged the fact of launching an armored attack on a group of civilians demonstrated peacefully in Western Sahara, which is, as i said before, blatant violation of the ceasefire, and has led to resumption of hostilities between the Moroccan Occupying forces and the forces of the polisario. Anchor the moroccan government are insistent that the reason they have sent those forces down there are two open the routes and the roadways to help logistics of traffic able to move north and south, and that its militias that are blocking their route. Are there militias there blocking the route in any way, shape or form, logistics from moving to Western Sahara up to morocco . Guest this is not true at all. Lets remember that morocco has been occupied legally the large part of the Western Sahara. They do not have any sovereignty over sahara. So what we have is a situation where we live in occupation by a military force. What morocco has been trying is to move beyond its military role in the Western Sahara and grab more land. And thats why we have this active aggression, which puts in danger the International Peace and security, and violates the ceasefire to the resumption of hostilities. So, there was no militias. Their actions and protests has been aired all around the world. There were women and many defenseless, but the moroccans have opted for using violence against them. They are the ones to blame and they are the ones to be held accountable for their actions. Anchor we shall see what does come in terms of response from morocco in the coming days. Thanks for joining us from valencia in spain. Thank you. Guest thank you very much. Anchor still ahead on al jazeera, this was the town with the most Coronavirus Infections in the u. K. A month ago.
