He said the funding will go towards israel and ukraine and Americas National security needs. In his address on thursday biden discussed both Islamist Militant Group hamas and russian president Vladimir Putin. When terrorists dont pay a price for their terror, when dictators dont pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction. They keep going, and the cost and the threats to america and the world keep rising. Bidens speech comes on the heels of his high stakes visit to israel for talks with Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu. Now, netanyahu has visited troops stationed at the border of the gaza strip ahead of an expected ground offensive against hamas. Israeli troops have seen hamas fighters launch attacks that have killed more than 1,400 people. Theyve retaliated with repeated air strikes. Authorities in gaza say at least 3,700 palestinians have been killed. Israeli units have been deployed along the border poised to cross over. The Prime Minister visited one staging ground to rally his troops. Netanyahus defense minister says soldiers looking at gaza from a distance will see it from the inside. Israeli leaders had cut off supplies to civilians, but now they say theyll allow deliveries of food, water, and medicine as long as they do not benefit hamas. Aid workers expect 20 trucks could cross into gaza as soon as friday. United nations Officials Say they need to respond to the most basic needs of civilians. Theyre calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Egypt says its ready to allow humanitarian aid into the gaza strip but will not open its borders to palestinians trying to flee the fighting. The egyptian president said on wednesday an influx of evacuees could lead to possible security risks and turn the Sinai Peninsula into a base for attacks against israel. Japans diet has convened an extraordinary session for the First Time Since Prime Minister Kishida Fumio reshuffled his cabinet last month. Rising prices are expected to be a major topic on the agenda. In the lower house the former finance minister of the main Ruling Liberal Democratic Party was chosen to succeed hiroyuki as the speaker. He hopes to debate policies including how to tackle inflation. Translator we will give a detailed explanation to the people about what kind of changes my administration is taking up and trying to make them into opportunities and then into power. Isuma kenta is the head of the opposition constitutional democratic party. He says economic measures are taking too long. Translator id like to go into this diet session to share the accumulated feelings, suffering and pain of people in this country. Question and answer sessions are scheduled for three days from tuesday. The Ruling Coalition and the government plan to compile new economic measures and submit a draft supplementary budget to fund spending. Theyre aiming to have it passed before the end of the session on december 13th. And for a closer look at that extraordinary session Yamamoto Miki earlier spoke to masuda tsuyoshi. On monday hes expected to say that the economy will be his administrations top priority. Peoples wages in japan have not kept up with the rising prices. Kishida is expected to tackle that with a plan to share some of the governments tax revenues. But it doesnt appear that people should be waiting for a check in the mail. Hes designed time limited income tax cuts. And high is kishida issuing that now . I think hes trying to improve his public image. Take a look at this graph. His cabinet Approval Rating remains at around its record low. Kishida believes this is directly related to public discontent over rising prices. But tax revenues are becoming more important. The Kishida Administration plans to increase defense spending to a historic high. It has already decided to raise Corporate Income taxes in status to finance that. Some members of the ruling parties are puzzled. They say its going to be difficult to strike a balance between tax cuts and tax hikes and that the policies are inconsistent. Okay, now, lets shift to foreign policies. The big issue capturing the worlds attention is, of course, the israelihamas conflict. How is kishida going to address that . Very carefully. Kishida is trying to stay in step with the g7 while also not burning any bridges. Japan has built friendly relations with both israel and arab nations. Kishida is not being as vocal in his support for israel compared to western leaders. Still, japan has called the attacks by hamas terror attacks. And it told israel that the country has a right to protect itself and its people. But an Israeli Ground offensive is expected soon. The fear is that will kill many civilians. If that happens, kishida will face pressure on his stance on the conflict. And managing that diplomatic balance will become even more tricky. We stay with news out of japan.
