Local activist calls for support for transgender community Against the soundtrack of honks, cheers of support and upbeat music, Cole Beehn danced around downtown Monroe, blanketed by a flag marked with pink, blue and white stripes. The flag is a symbol often associated with the transgender community. And the 35-year-old Monroe resident wants local members of that community to know they’re not alone. “We want to make sure people know they are loved and they have support,” Beehn said. Wednesday was International Transgender Day of Visibility. And Beehn, who identifies as gender nonbinary, organized a demonstration calling for support of local transgender individuals and to show them there are allies nearby.
