Local artists place in statewide DAR contests for knitting, painting Sentinel Staff HOLLAND — Two locals were named top winners in statewide contests from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Kathy Meneghin, member of the Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton Chapter in Holland, placed first in the Michigan DAR American Heritage Contest for a knitted winter shawl. “The design and process of making this shawl was entirely my own," Meneghin said. "I had a vision of what I wanted to create. The intense blue color was created using plant dyes from a common weed." Meneghin placed first in the division contest and second in the national contest.
