Fiji Chess Federation president Hilda Kunau said competitions as such provides a great pathway for talent identification. “There has been an immense interest shown by chess players from around the country,” she said. “The players are slowly adapting to the new formats of online chess competitions at the international level. “Online international competitions are economical because a huge chunk of expenses relating to travels, meals and accommodations are nullified. “The chess players are more focused on the task at hand rather than forfeiting valuable time on traveling.”
