Local colleges not requiring the coronavirus vaccine As people continue to roll up their sleeves for the coronavirus vaccine, local college officials said the shot will not be required for students, faculty or staff. Though Nicholls State University in Thibodaux and Fletcher Technical Community College in Schriever plan to return to traditional classes in the fall, requiring a COVID-19 vaccine will not be on the agenda. “We’re not going to require the vaccine,” Fletcher Chancellor Dr. Kristine Strickland said. “That’s a personal choice for our faculty, staff and students. At the end of the day, people have to make the best decisions for themselves. The vaccine helps us get back to what we know as more normal and I’m certainly encouraging everyone that I know to consider getting the vaccine and do their homework.”
