We will celebrate two birthdays with Long Play recordings…the music of
Charles Mingus born: 4/22/1922 and the music of
Duke Ellington born: 4/29/1899.
“Sue’s Changes” (17:01) from “Changes One” from 1975 featuring Jack Walrath-Trumpet, George Adams-Tenor Sax, Don Pullen-Piano, Dannie Richmond-Drums and
Charles Mingus on the Bass.
Also from Changes One, Duke Ellington’s “Sound of Love” (12:04) with the same band.
A loving tribute by Mingus, citing Ellington’s writing of the classic love song, so many of which are iconic standards of Jazz.
