By Phoebe Vallapureddy The recent ban on fracking throughout the Delaware River Basin is a historic step forward in the fight against climate change. The water, air, and land in communities across Pennsylvania have become polluted as a result of fracking, and the possibility of accidents, spills, and flaring events presents a clear danger. Fracking threatens our safety and the health of our communities. It is the right choice to keep that methane in the ground. Every person within the Delaware River Basin deserves the opportunity to enjoy their natural surroundings. The pandemic has highlighted how important nature is to our physical and mental health. The Delaware Canal Towpath and Delaware Water Gap are two places located within the Delaware River Basin that I have enjoyed hiking as a teenager. The ban on fracking gives me hope that I will continue to enjoy these spaces as I grow older because they will not be spoiled by industry pollution.
