Man charged with numerous felonies after allegedly using 'spanking sticks' to punish children

A man accused of utilizing multiple “spanking sticks” to punish children was charged in 1st District Court on Monday.
Charles Allan Olson, 43, faces 10 counts of second-degree child abuse and one count of first-degree aggravated kidnapping. Olson was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail on Friday.
During his initial appearance on Monday, defense counsel disputed the kidnapping charge and asked for Olson’s release. Judge Angela Fonnesbeck denied release for the time being and set a hearing to determine his bail status for March 8.

A probable cause affidavit filed with the court states six children were interviewed about alleged physical abuse by Olson. Based on the interviews, deputies wrote Olson utilized sticks made of wood, plastic, metal and twisted wire to punish the children. The sticks had various names, according to deputies, including “Old Bamboo,” “White Lightning,” “Sammy Kablame,” and “solid truth.”
