The Blanchester man convicted of kidnapping his neighbor and holding her in a grave-like pit has been released from prison as he awaits a new trial.
Dennis Dunn was found guilty of kidnapping Jennifer Elliott and sentenced in 2019 to seven years in prison by Judge Tim Rudduck. Now, that same judge is granting Dunn a new trial.
Joe Medici, deputy director of Trial Services for the Ohio Public Defender, stated in their post-conviction petition, that Dunn's trial attorney failed to investigate or properly use evidence that showed his innocence.
"We presented that evidence to the court during a hearing in February and ultimately, the court agreed that Mr. Dunn was entitled to a new trial," Medici said.
