An investigation was launched on March 25 after the one-vehicle crash critically injured the 64-year-old male driver. Officers were alerted to the incident shortly before 3.50pm, when it was reported a grey Citroen Picasso travelling northbound on the A68 towards the Riding Mill roundabout junction with the A695, had come off the road and collided with a large metal sign. The driver had been taken to hospital for treatment but on Sunday died as a result of his injuries. His family is currently being supported by specialist officers. Enquiries remain ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and police have issued a further appeal for information.
