Manila Bay can be 'swimmable' again, but not in many years – Atienza – Manila Bulletin

The public may enjoy summer swimming at the Manila Bay but at the rate toilet wastes are being dumped into the bay, this would take “several years” from now.
Deputy Speaker and Buhay Partylist Rep. Lito Atienza made this assertion as he warned people taking a dip into the bay are seriously endangering themselves from the “very high fecal coliform level” of this body of water.
Atienza said practically nothing has been done by Metro Manila water and sewerage system concessionaires on this problem.
“Sadly, we expect the bay’s fecal coliform levels to stay extremely elevated in the years ahead, considering that some 85 percent or 13.9 million of the water-served population in Metro Manila are still not hooked up to a sewage network,” Atienza said.
