by Nelson Daily Staff on Sunday Apr 18 2021 Fallen trees over the power lines from the windstorm near Ridgewood Road on the North Shore closed Highway 3A to traffic Sunday evening. — Submitted photos A surprise windstorm that swept through the West Kootenay Sunday evening knocked out power to most of Nelson Hydro customers and caused Highway 3A on the North Shore to be closed while crews dealt with several downed trees. Nelson Hydro said on the City of Nelson Facebook page “Nelson Hydro is experiencing outages in multiple areas due to a wind event.” The recording on Nelson Hydro phone message line said power was affected from Sproule Creek and Blewett west of Nelson to Queens Bay, north of Balfour.
