The weather will not be the only thing heating up in the next few months, according to officials in Michigan's tourism industry. With COVID-19 infections dipping, vaccinations rising and restrictions slowly falling away, demand for outdoor recreational venues like campgrounds, forests, beaches and golf courses is expected to be red hot. While that pent-up demand looks to benefit areas where outdoor amenities are plentiful, the outlook for cities reliant on spring and summer conferences and conventions is bleaker. Campgrounds still in high demand Michigan's state park system, for instance, could see record crowds, officials said. "Right now, we're sitting at about 40% more reservations than we had at the same time last year," said Ron Olson, parks and recreation chief for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
