Most migrants have passed north, but some late ones are still being reported around Erie such as Lincoln’s sparrow, pine siskin, Wilson’s warbler, Canada warbler and blackpoll warbler. Birds heard singing now are likely territorial males already mated with females that will stay and nest. Butterflies on the wing now are black swallowtail, spicebush swallowtail, eastern tiger swallowtail, American copper, red admiral, red-spotted purple, little wood-satyr, monarch, Zabulon skipper, Hobomok skipper and silver-spotted skipper. Wildflowers in bloom include miterwort, sheep sorrel, English plantain, Virginia waterleaf, amur honeysuckle, redosier dogwood, alternate-leaved dogwood, cucumber tree and black locust tree.
