More than half of Americans with uncontrolled asthma smoke marijuana

More than half of Americans with untreated asthma smoke marijuana - and most say it HELPS relieve pain and improve sleep
Researchers surveyed 245 asthma patients, 148 of whom had the respiratory condition under control and 97 of whom did not
Of the uncontrolled asthma patients, 33% had smoked weed in the past and 20.6% were current users
Most users reported positive benefits including 75% saying it helped with sleep and 68% saying it lessened pain compared to 20% who reported coughing
Doctors say efforts need to be made to get asthma patients to reduce smoking pot and potentially switch to routes such as edibles
