View Comments An 83-year-old pilot walked away from the crash of his experimental aircraft Tuesday at Morristown Municipal Airport, FAA and local authorities said. Morristown police and Airport Rescue fire units responded to a report of a crash at 9 a.m. on Runway 5-23 and located the pilot, a Springfield man who was operating an experimental single-engine Taylor Coot amphibious two-seat aircraft. The pilot told responders that as he approached his landing, the indicators inside the aircraft showed that his landing gear was down and locked. But as he touched down on the runway, the right landing gear seemingly either failed or had not locked down.
