"Winter weather will likely impact any New Year’s festivities," the National Weather Service's Topeka office said on its website. The weather service issued a winter storm watch Wednesday morning indicating a winter storm was expected on Thursday evening and Friday to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to northeast Kansas. Topeka was expected to see no ice but 4 to 6 inches of snow, with ice accumulations coming to the capital city's south and east, according to a graphic posted on the weather service's website.
