Thousands of protesters gathered in the streets of Israel Tonight to voice their Outrage And Demand a ceasefire after six hostages were found dead in gaza. Now earlier Today President Biden and Vice President harris spoke with his parents, Rachel Goldberg and john polin, to offer them condolences. Biden released a Statement Saying make no mistake, hamas leaders will pay for these had crimes, and we will keep working around the clock for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages. Nbc news correspondent, Matt Bradley, has more from Tel Aviv. Reporter it has been like this for hours. It looks like Hundreds Of Thousands of people converging right in the center of Tel Aviv in what is kind of israels answer to the pentagon. They are hoping they have an incredibly loud protest. And it really is loud. Theyre hoping its heard in the halls of power. Now their main demand . The israeli Government Sign on to some kind of a deal with hamas that would free the hostages and bring some measure of peace to the gaza strip. This would bring home those remaining hundred hostages, only a few dozen of whom are considered to be alive. What has energized the crowd so much more tonight than in previous months of protest at the same location . The murder of six young people in Hamas Custody or the custody of their Partner Group in the gaza strip. This is outraged. They really indicate the notion for so many people saying this for months that there is no military solution to freeing these hostages. Even e though Benjamin Netanyahu and his right wing munsters have been saying they need to punish hamas and end their rule on the gaza strip, and that is the only way to free the hostages. So far only a handful of hostages have been released that way by military force. The majority have been through some kind of deal. The killing of these hostages in the last day or two has vindicated this argument that there needs to be a deal and that is why youre seeing so many people out in the streets. Now this is not going to end tonight. The organizers want to see a full on nationwide Strike Tomorrow including various municipal governments that have already signed on. And even at the international airport. The gateway to israel will be closed starting at 8 00 a. M. Local time tomorrow. There is a demonstration that the organizers are hoping wont end any time soon. Tim walz was back in his Home State courting visitors at the Minnesota State fair today. And the focus will shift to critical swing states. Harris will kick off the holiday in detroit. She will join up with president Joe Biden. The Steel City Stop will mark the first time they have joined forces for a Campaign Appearance since harris took over the democratic tickets top spot. And also tonight a new national Abc News Poll shows harris with a slight lead over former president Donald Trump. That lead kicks up a little bit when youre surveying likely voters. Taken after the democratic national convention. Now despite those numbers, the chair says in a Memo Harris is still running as an underdog in this race. Everything from Abortion Rights and treatment for all. She has remained focused, offering these comments during the first Television Interview as a president ial candidate. I think the most important and most important aspect of my Policy Process is my values will not change. Its important to build consensus. It is important to find a common place of understanding of where we can actually solve problems. All right, joining me now to discuss all of this. Detroit and your state has a large population that has been done. Do you believe they will stop tomorrow. What do you think she will say on the situation in Israel Tonight . It is about reaffirming her commitment to doing everything she possibly can to ensure the remaining hostages are brought home safely. But also to ending the war, its been depp stating here in the city of michigan. And the as well as urban american population. We all want peace. We all want safety for the palestinian people and the israeli people as well. And my heart absolutely goes out to those who have loved nice. It will show you how difficult it is to negotiate, you know, with Bad Faith actors and terrorist organization. Its a devastating Scene And News to wake up to this morning. Switching gears to the election. Re¢ polling in your state shows harris has a small lead. It will be super tight in michigan. It always seems to be the way. What does she need to do to maintain the momentum she has built up through the connection and that she wants to bottle for the next 65 days . I think that Kamala Harris needs to do what shes doing right now, you know, which is doing the work, showing up, talking about all her policies that are going to improve the lives and really build that had contract that we know exists. He wants you to abolish the care act. And even the right to organize. He joked with Elon Musk about firing striking workers, even in the private sector, right . So i think its the contrast about somebody who is very, very good for the middle class and everyday americans verses Donald Trump who only wants to help billionaires and frankly enrich himself and his family as well. Hes talked about it being tied up, right . My race, the day before its 2022. All the polls had me tied in my race. Ultimately i won by nine points. Governor whitmer won by 10. 5 points. Benson won by 14 points. Why . Because we had Record Voter Turnout and engagement, and we had the highest rates of young voters as well in 2022. Thats what we need, excitement, enthusiasm. We have all that now. We just need to see it through The End. I was going to say on the issue of engagement, enthusiasm, you thought of it specifically. Have you seen the tangible shift since Vice President harris replaced President Biden on top of the ticket . Well, with all due respect to President Biden, its like night and day, you know . There was there were a lot of people who didnt feel they wanted to get involved at that level. And ive seen how they and their friends have reacts. They cant wait to get her elected to president of the united states. Theyre very, very excited because they know she shares their values about making america better for them in the future. Its not about going back, its about moving forward. Whether it is Gun Safety issues, climate change, Reproductive Rights. Even eliminating student debt. These are things incredibly important to young voters. I think they know that, and that is why they will show up for Kamala Harris in Election Day in michigan before that because we have no reason after the key voting as well as nine days of early voting. Lets talk about the issue general . The legal complexities brought up by Donald Trump. The former president continues to push the Big Lie in an effort to sow doubts about our election and the election process. And he experienced this back in 2020. What is different now . The lead up to this election that we didnt have in the lead up to 2020 that could prevent a repeat of what happened. I guess more fundamentally, do you believe we will have a peaceful transfer of power if he loses in november . Well, i think we, perhaps we would cover in 2020, right . And so we have changed certain laws to our elections and theyre safe, secure, and accurate. How do we make sure all the processes work . Its things like understanding that, it literally anybody could take their slate and go through the postal service and send it to the senate for the Vice President to select. Thats not the case anymore. It needs to be transmitted officially through the office of the governor. Thats a change, right . We have made some changes as it pertains to how the board of canvassers work. As to how any election challenges have to go right to the Michigan Supreme Court as opposed to random courts around the state when it comes to certification. We have done a lot of things here in michigan to make sure some of the things that have happened, they cannot happen now. If they do, were ready, were prepared, and we have a plan. Well, just very quickly, very quickly. Due to the last part of the question now. Are you worried that put it this way. Do you think there will be a peaceful transfer of power if Donald Trump were to lose the election . I feel very confident that President Biden will peacefully transfer power to Vice President harris. April, lets avoid the imagery. Lets talk about the fallout growing over Donald Trumps photo up in Arlington National Cemetery with service members killed. On Meet The Press this morning, tried to lay the blame on Biden And Harris for not being there and take a listen. They wanted trump there and they wanted to take the photos. Joe biden and Kamala Harris. Where were they . Kamala harris was four miles away, just ten minutes. She could have gone to the cemetery and honored the sacrifice of those young men and women, but she hasnt. Center and now neither Biden Or Harris were actually invited to Arlington Last week. And this is kind of interesting, which clearly took on a bit of water for the reported incident and the confrontation at arlington involving members of this campaign . And this is sad. Arlington national cemetery is safer. Not just the fact that they are putting those who are there, people who fought and served this nation that they never did and lets talk about those homes first. And my cousin was in the army and my late father and this is sacred. Donald trump, he has never had respect for the military number one. Lets start there and talk about John Mccain and no matter the party, who would stay there as the Prisoner Of War who would stay and he stayed there for this country and that gold star family. He has a record of no respect for the military as this is a part of that line of disrespect. And that the president and the Vice President would have gone and they would live in that observatory and doesnt live there. And you had some issues of the Reproductive Rights. And this morning, he was on abc this week where he addressed this new Policy Pledge to mandate them to cover the cost of ivf treatment, which could be expensive. Center i think hes trying to set up the support and where we are not. Being accused against treatments, but were not. You wouldnt support the idea of mandating the Insurance Company to cover this, would you . No. There is no end to that and i think the Tax Credit for children will make sense. Means tested. And i think we should look at that concept for people trying to have a child. That will make some sense to me. And dean, you mentioned it earlier, they have been all over the map on Reproductive Rights. But Im Kind of curious. Will voters find these efforts to support the cost of treatments persuasive . Maybe hes making a genuine move to the middle on this. And then secondarily, democrats could potentially call his bluff by bringing a bill to cover the cost by the senate, which they do control. Im curious, do you think they should do something like that . First of all can you give me a second so i can make sure they bring that out for a vote . Thats a great idea, sam. And secondly through the first part of this, im looking forward. And im sure it will come with an amazing Health Care Plan that he promised eight years ago that every two years we would get. And Lindsey Graham has no issue of doing anything further. Other republicans might be on board because they will see the polling and they see a massive gender gap. They understand they will lose badly in 2024. One of the main issues is Donald Trump saying things like i terminated roe v. Wade and i was honored to do so. This is a minor effort. It is not a political issue. I dont think the republicans did it. Nothing more personal than forcing them against their will to carry that. So this is not politics. They Cant Lesson it, but hes got it. And women, they are literally dying because of these policies. Donald trump, its empty and the worst form of politics that i dont think anyone will believe in the middle. April, what do you have to say . You know, to Piggyback Off of that. Sometimes these women as you heard the democratic convention as you can hear numerous times from women, that they are caring babies. And the doctors, they cannot do anything because of these laws. The Bottom Line, Donald Trump has an archaic mentality that women are listening. And they are going in droves to Kamala Verses Donald Trump in this archaic idea of how he wants women to be treated, and hes worried about their bodies. The Bottom Line is Donald Trump has to answer these questions at the debate. Kamala harris is going to chew him up. She has stood strong on Reproductive Rights where Donald Trump is waffling. We will receive what happens with that debate. Again, women are listening, the largest voting block. Move over to kamala because of the watchman on this. Thank you, april. But i guess the Surprise Effect went away after what we saw on January 6. The republicans, they would respond to what happened on January 6. Thats their moment when tay say were done. Lindsey graham said were done. Mccarthy, they blamed him. Everybody blamed him. So that is their moment to get away from Donald Trump. Nope. Nope. Hes right back at the forefront of it. Whats interesting to me and maybe interesting is the wrong word. But whats always been notable to me, trump has proven to himself as an ally of police. Back the blue. He will be going to and from. That he is not Capitol Police. Do they recognize that conversation. And youre loyal to him verses the loyal you took. You see that a lot of time with the military people. He backs that not an individual. Thats where Donald Trump loves to be able to back the blue. He finds a big population of Law Enforcement that does support him. Not just our police officers. The role January 6 will play in this upcoming election. 65 days, remarkably close. How much do you think the Harriswalz Ticket should look back at that day, focused on that day, highlight that day, and make the Case Trump is a unique threat currently or can they do both . Testimony two years will will be honored. I wish i wasnt relevant. I wish January 6 wasnt relevant. The fact we are talking about it because theyre holding the awards gala. People are still down playing what happened on January 6 verses what everybody saw with their own eyes. And as long as Donald Trump continues to do that, unfortunately the police officers, myself will continue to be relevant because im not going to stop pushing back against those lives, which the Harris Campaign has been doing a good job on doing. Im kind of curious as you lived it, you experienced it, you know its true. What is it like to watch 45, 60 of the country be like no, that wasnt actually a violent day . It was a peaceful protest. No, these people. Is it an outofbody experience rely on. Most of the people in the world know what happened on January 6 and know Donald Trump was responsible. And 46 of the people say i dont believe it and it sucks. However, there are people ive seen going out across the country, being able to talk to people who dont have an understanding to talk to them that day and what happened today is important. And obviously the January 6 riot was on January 6. Its not going to happen in november. But theres a Chance Trump could try the same stuff. He could do something similar. Its not out of the question. You form you looking about that . Donald trump is planning. We have an adult in the White House that will be responsible should something bad happen. I think Joe Biden will give everybody, the police, the assistance that they will need to be. Harry dunn, thank you so much. Thank you. Vice president Kamala Harris returns to detroit, michigan, for the second time in less than a month. Its a part of what her campaign is calling a Labor Day blitz. Both harris and Donald Trump plan to win the union vote. Both campaigns have received different receptions to their efforts. Nine out of ten of the largest unions have endorsed harris as president. Holding off on an endorsement for now. On wednesday, democratic Vp Nominee Minnesota governor Tim Walz got a warm reception while appearing before members of the firefighters union. Next Day Gop based nominee j. D. Vance got a different reception. I want to talk about why we are fighting for our working people, why we will fight for unions and nonUnion Members alike. All right, joining me now is the president of the Afl Ceo and joining me after campaigning with Governor Walz earlier today. Shes set to travel to pittsburgh for a rally with Vice President harris. And i was curious as to what your reaction is to the reception there from walz and vance. And just sort of curious, you know, obviously j. D. Vance is probably going to get some boos in there and in that hall. But should the democrats be a little concerned frankly about the fact theyre making the effort, trying to win Union Members over . Well, they would try to talk a good game. And now we can see what our brother, Tim Walz, who was in a union and a union teacher, you know, they fought for working people their entire lives. Its the difference between rhetoric and reality. And this project 2025 Road Map that trumpvance have put forward and we know they want to eliminate unions. There is no secret as to talk a good game as we would look at results. And he gave that game away when he said he was impressed by that ability. And nine out of ten as i mentioned, they have endorsed that ticket. I want you to take a listen to what he had to say on the matter this morning. And i think they will endorse both conventions where it is a little bit different under our leadership where we have brought every single candidate in front of the Rank And File members and we are waiting for Vice President harris to come meet with us. And bryant was given the Speaking Spot in july. And to have the same, but he claimed he did not receive the same response. The administration passed a law that saved the pensions. And what do you make of the role that they are playing here . And each union will go through a process. What he was doing was saying we are giving each campaign a chance to respond to our members and that is what hes planning to do with harris. But the theme of corporate greed is what he brought to the rnc. And because once he had the stage, basically they couldnt, you know, control what he was going to say and it was an uncomfortable message. And challenging corporate power is what unions do for working people to bring their voice and to get a slice of that wealth that were helping these companies create and to have a Say And Demand respect and dignity. That message was what would bring working peoples voices into the room. I was in the hall when he did make that speech and it was uncomfortable. And then secretary of treasurer and eventual president gave a famous speech. Really a famous speech in which he said racism could play a role in affecting the perceptions of union workers. He called out Union Members, saying look, we have to recognize the Obama Agenda is better for Working Class Workers and get beyond the issue of race. Im sure you would remember it. Absolutely. There is not a single good reason for any worker, especially any Union Member to vote against barack obama. And there is only one really bad reason to vote against barack obama. Thats because hes not white. We know better than anyone else how its used to divide working people. And over 16 years from that speech. Do you think some of the hurdles that richard was trying to address there persistent today . Wow. I remember that speech so well. And i think it is what they called a viral moment in the earlier days of the internet, right . And it really spoke to the power that unions have to reach members across the divide. And so we have a unique credibility to open peoples ears and speak with credibility because were in the break rooms together and we spent a lot of time together at work, so beyond your friends and family that people will listen and being able to have those hard conversations about the rumors that were going around at that time, you know, not wearing a flag pin, you name it. And he actually cosponsored a ban and voted against Ivf Or Access to contraception. Hes running for reelection and that is why this race is so critical. That now we have them on the ballot, even if we would pass them in the state of florida. And then hes trying to become. He will have a national Abortion Ban and that is why we cannot allow him to win in november. Youre making history, if you win, you will be the second elected. Tell us why and how thats important for your state. And so many families here identify with my story. My story that my mother had the courage to bring me and my sister here for freedom.
