Well break down the latest polling showing how this tight race that has changed. And how it could be a Dog Fight Right to the finish. Good morning, it is 10 00 Eastern, 7 00 a. M. Pacific, im Ana Cabrera reporting from New York. We begin with the Breaking News out of ukraine. President zelenskyy confirming that a russian Missile Strike killed at least 41 people and injured 180 more making it one of the deadly strikes since the war began. The ukrainian officials say the attack in the central town of poltava hitting a military Training Facility and a nearby hospital. Nbc news international correspondent Kelly Cobiella is tracking this for us. What more do we know about this attack . Reporter good morning, it was unclear at first as to what kind of facility that was. We have now confirmed that was a military Training Facility that was hit. Two russian ballistic missiles hit it and the nearby hospital. So far, the numbers, at least 41 killed and 180 injured, according to President Zelenskyys office. We cant independently verify the figures, but if true, it would make the strike one of the deadliest on ukraine since the beginning of the war. There was a devastating strike a couple of months ago in july in which dozens were killed as well. Russia has not commented but some of the countrys influential Military Bloggers have been talking about this. They have reported a deadly strike in a Military Site just hours before President Zelenskyy announced it. The president said that some people were trapped under the rubble this morning. But many had been rescued. His Interior Minister saying about 25 people had been pulled from the rubble, and some fires had been put out and rescues were still underway. President zelenskyy said hes ordered a full and prompt investigation into what happened, and he reiterated his call for more Air Defense systems. He said ukraine needs Air Defense systems and missiles now, not sitting in storage. He wrote this on telegram. He said that long range strikes can protect us from russian terror, and those are needed now. Permission to carry those out is needed now. Every day, every day, he said, means more lost lives, continuing to push for more help from the united states and other western allies, ana. Kelly cobiella, thank you for bringing us the very latest, again, out of the russia ukraine conflict. Lets turn to israel. More protests are expected today as unrest roils the country. Six hostages were found dead in a tunnel in gaza, shot, reportedly just before a chance at rescue. Overnight, more massive protests, the public demanding netanyahu do more to free the remaining hostages and reach a Cease Fire with hamas. Those demonstrations included protesters carrying six empty coffins past netanyahus home in jerusalem. Nbc news international correspondent Matt Bradley joins us live from israel. Also with us, former israeli Consul General in New York, Ambassador Alon pinkas. What is the latest in Israel Today . Reporter the latest is whats about to happen, ana. We dont know whats going to happen tonight. We have seen two consecutive nights of enormous protests in Tel Aviv. The question is are these protesters who are demanding a Cease Fire and a hostage exchange, are they going to be able to keep up the Momentum And Pressure on prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a third night. Heres our report. Today protests set to continue after two days of Street Clashes brought israeli Anger Right up to President Benjamin Netanyahus doorstep, demanding he reach a deal to free the remaining hostages. The spark that ignited the anger, the discovery of six dead hostages in a tunnel over the weekend. Everybody feels like they have to do something. Reporter one of them, american israeli Hersh Goldbergpolin whose funeral was held yesterday. Now on your journey, i hope its as good as the trips you dreamed about, finally my sweet boy, finally, finally, finally, youre free. Reporter President Biden asked about israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu. Do you think hes doing enough . No. Reporter two people briefed on the discussions telling Nbc News that biden may offer a final Take It Or Leave it deal as soon as this week in hopes of reaching a Cease Fire agreement. Yesterday, netanyahu directly addressing the families of the six murdered hostages saying im asking your forgiveness that we didnt manage to bring them back still alive. But remaining defiant. Saying he wont give way on his demand that israeli troops remain on gazas Southern Border A key Sticking Point in negotiations. Saying in statement, in response it would send hostages back if coffins if the campaign continued. Releasing this video of one of the six, made under duress before her death. Eden telling her family she loves and misses them. On sunday, his father touching his Daughters Coffin as he mourned. So obviously ana, The Big Question is whether or not theyre going to be able to sustain the momentum, keep the protests up. Beyond that, the question is will these voices in the streets be heard in the halls of power . Are they going to change their policies . Matt bradley, thank you for the reporting. Ambassador, despite the protests, netanyahu at this point is showing defiance. He did apologize for the deaths of the hostages but he signalled no change in strategy. Here he was yesterday defining what total victory means to him. I would define the end of the war in gaza, when hamas no longer rules gaza. We throw them out. I would define the end of the war in World War ii when the nazis no longer rule germany. Were out to destroy the military capabilities of the hamas and the governing capabilities of hamas, and were well on our way to achieving both. That is total victory. So, ambassador, what is netanyahus calculation in how to proceed in this moment . Prolong the war, ana. Thats his only interest. He thinks this is all subject to his political calculations and political survival. He never had any intention of pursuing a hostage deal, let alone a Cease Fire deal that effectively brings the war to at least a De Facto end if not a full end. You know, his Bogus Speech Last Night Replete with inaccuracies, not to say lies, did very little to change the public impression of him. Look, if Philadelphi Corridor as he keeps on mentioning is of such strategic importance and magnitude, then why did he not begin the war in this Philadelphi Corridor. Why did he do nothing about that 10 Mile Stretch of road . Thats all it is. For 15 years as prime minister. Why, by the way, not that it matters much to our viewers right now, but why did he vote twice if favor of israeli disengagement from gaza in 2005 that had left the Philadelphi Road, the Philadelphi Corridor under egyptian control, and the last thing, you call it defiance. He has no plan. He has no political objectives. There is no strategy here. It is just prolonging the war. I mean, you talk about the Philadelphi Corridor, which, again, is that section between gaza and egypt, and he explained that this has become very important because in his words, the first crack in Hamass Position came when we took control of rafah and that philadelphi route. So he sees it as strategically a key point at this moment, you mention that he wants to prolong the war. Can you explain why you see it that way . And we did hear from President Biden yesterday when questioned about Netanyahus Handling of the situation that he wasnt doing enough to free the hostages. I assume you agree with that as well. What more could be done . Well, a lot could be done, but lets start with the Philadelphi Corridor. He thinks its strategic. I think its nonsensical. The Defense Minister disagrees with him. The Idf Chief of staff disagrees with him. Four different generals who commanded the southern command, Southern Front disagree with him. Any Military Expert, and im not including myself here as one, but any Military Expert whose opinion was solicited, compared unbalanced with the hostages, this is of no significance whatsoever. As for the americans, you know, secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the outset of the war in lately october, and then again in november asked specifically if the Center Of Gravity of Hamass Military Activity in the southern part of gaza, nearing the Philadelphi Road or corridor, as it is called, if that is the Center Of Gravity, then why the hell did you not start the war there. Why the hell did you have to bombard and destroy half of gaza, the northern part, and cause a mass humanitarian crisis, if the Center Of Gravity is there. Why does he want to prolong the war . You ask the most important question, ana, because it distances him away from October 7th. He feels it protects from mass demonstration. He thinks in the long run, maintaining a warlike atmosphere keeps them shielded from political pressures and from american pressures. Hes even flirting with escalation until the north with lebanon, and even with iran. He needs this to subscribe to his narrative. According to which, October 7th and was not just a hamas attack, but its, indeed, a civilization of prod multipronged war. That is why he refuses to end the war. That is why he never meant and never intended for one second to pursue a hostage deal. And what is most surprising, to your last question, your last remark, what is most surprising, i have to tell you is the very flat Learning Curve that the american administration had. For god sakes, you feel and admit to being manipulated seven times. How many times can you buy a used car from the same guy. Hell do this, Hell Present a Take It Or Leave it plan, we have been there. We have done that. We have heard this so many times before. I hear your Frustration And Exasperation with this ongoing leadership in israel as these hundred plus hostages still remain hanging in the balance and the entire region remains a tinderbox. Ambassador alon pinkas, thank you for offering your perspective on the situation. Joining us now is aviva seigle, freed after 51 days in the earlier Cease Fire deal. But her husband keith is still a hostage. Thank you so much for taking the time and my heart is with you right now. After everything that has transpired over the past few days, the tragic death of six hostages, the protests were seeing, what are you feeling this morning . First of all, i want to say that Hershs Family are my family now, and the six hostages, we are one big huge family. I was there at the funeral. It was such a sad moment, and its just impossible to even think that keith might be the next one. Im not prepared to even think about that. I want keith and all the hostages to come back alive. I do not want them to kill keith like they killed hersh and tell us hes dead. And when he comes back, that he looks like a skeleton. Im sick and tired of worrying and thinking about the conditions that keith is in. I was there. I know exactly what hes going through. You feel like youre going to die any minute. They play games with your head. They just put the gun in front of your face, and play games with you. So i want everybody to just try and imagine what its like, thrown underneath the ground, 40 meters, while you can hardly breathe. Lying on a very filthy dirty mattress with no matter in the toilet, hardly with any food, and just thinking, when are you going to be dead. So i want everybody to wake up, and the whole world and should stop. The conditions are not just like a simple jail. They are buried in hell, threatened in such a brutal way, and its just the most unhuman thing for us humans to know what theyre going through and to just leave them there. It sounds so horrific, so awful, any word on keith and his situation . You know, lots of people likely have asked me that. We got the video in april, but i want to tell everybody it doesnt mean anything. It does not mean anything. Keith could be killed now. He could be tortured now, while were talking. The girls, they could be attacked and the hamas terrorists are allowed to do whatever they want to, to humans that have hearts, and enough is enough. They have been there for nearly a year, and we need the whole world to get together. I am begging, begging, please help me get keith home. And all the hostages. Absolutely. You see the people in the streets in israel, these giant protests supporting keith and the other hostages, trying to pressure the israeli government to secure their release. What does it mean to you to see this movement in the streets . Do you think it will change anything . I was in Tel Aviv two days ago. I was in jerusalem last night. I saw everything and felt everything. The whole country is with us, with the families. Their hearts are with us. Everybody wants to hug me and say theyre sorry, and thats what i feel from the people. Im begging. Im begging for all of the hostages that they are there begging and do not want to die, and i remember being with keith, and he looked at me and he said, you know what, we need to remember everything were going through because when we get out of this place, i want to tell the whole world what i went through. So please just get him out of there. And thats what im doing. While the protest was in Tel Aviv, interviewed for at least eight countries, i talk all over, the stories that i tell and what i went through and what keith is going through, and all the hostages are going through are not human. Not human. Theyre the worst thing. Its the worst thing that could happen to anybody. When netanyahu says that securing the Hostages Release is his priority, do you believe him . No, i dont. I believe that Bibi Netanyahu is killing the hostages, and thats whats happening. The six hostages that were killed, it was just too much for me to handle, and too much for this whole country to handle. And thats what you see, the people have had enough. Thank you for offering your voice to the situation, helping us understand whats in your heart, and honoring keith and lifting up his picture, and his story, and hes in all of our hearts and minds. Thank you so much for joining us. I just want to say that keith is an american. He was brought up in North Carolina, and his mom is 97 years old, and shes waiting for him. Please, please, please get him out of there. We hope he comes home to you very very soon. Thank you, again, for being with us. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Now, if youre a democrat, the good news, besides the fact that youre ahead is thats an improvement for democrats from where things were before harris became the candidate.
