We begin this busy hour with a 2024 race for the white house, with both candidates hitting the trail after tuesdays critical debate. Today, former President Trump is out west at his Golf Course in Los Angeles County to fundraise before hosting a rally in Las Vegas tonight. Hes also set to hold what his campaign is calling a Press Conference in the next hour. The Harris Walz Campaign is also stepping up its Ground Game with the Vice President back in Battleground Pennsylvania today. Her running mate, governor tim walz is making stops in michigan and wisconsin. It marks a major push by both campaigns after this Weeks Showdown on the Debate Stage. Vice president is already calling for another debate, while trump appears less inclined. I believe we owe it to another debate. Right . We owe it to the voters. Because heres the thing, in this election, whats at stake could not be more important. So because we have done two debates and because they were successful, there will be no third debate. It is too late anyway. The voting has already begun. You got to go out and vote. Joining us now, Nbc News white House Correspondent Aaron Gilchrist and Nbc News correspondent Vaughn Hillyard live in california for us and amna nawaz, coanchor of Pbs News Hour and msnbc contributor. What is the Vice President s Message Today in pennsylvania . We know pennsylvania is critically important to winning this election in november. And the Harris Walz Campaign has made that point very clear. We know the Vice President spent five days in pittsburgh last weekend and this week, and then a day and a half, two days on the calendar in philadelphia, and now shes going back to pennsylvania yet again. The first two johnstown, pennsylvania and then wilkesbarre. We understand the campaign sees these two counties as republican strongholds. A counties that former President Trump won in the last Election Cycle and the campaign says their purpose now is to extend the momentum they feel they have from the debate, which they say Vice President harris won, and also to try to talk directly to those Swing Voters in those counties where the Vice President wants to grow support. So shell visit a Small Business in johnstown, we know that the campaign has put forward ideas to help Small Businesses grow. And then shell hold a rally in wilkesbarre tonight. Again, the point being to try to Reach Out to republicans in those areas, shell be introduced by a republican at that rally in wilkesbarre and try to drum up more support and to chip away at the margins, get whatever support she can from republicans in that critically important Swing State to make sure she can win pennsylvania in november, jose. What can we expect to hear from President Trump in the next hour . Thats an outstanding question, jose. Here at noon Eastern time, 9 00 local here at his Los Angeles Golf club, he is having what is billed as a press event. Not clear hes going to take any questions from the press. Of course, last week at Trump Tower he billed a similar type of an event for reporters and cameras to come to and after an hour of speaking, he did not take any questions. So this is going to be his first such type of event yet, a rally in tucson, arizona, yesterday, a rally in vegas, nevada, tonight. Of course, though, there is much scrutiny coming out of his Debate Performance on tuesday night. Of course, yesterday he said that he has no intention of going on another Debate Stage with kamala harris. So, if he does indeed face questions, of course, we could face quite a litany of them here from the gathered press, jose. And, vaughn, this comes after trump proposed a new policy specifically on the Economy Yesterday . Right. I want to let you listen to a little bit of his remarks there at that tucson event. Take a listen. The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country. And for too long no one in washington has been looking out for them. Those are the people. They really work. Theyre police officers, nurses, Factory Workers, construction workers, Truck Drivers and machine operators. It is time for the working Man And Woman to finally catch a break and thats what were doing, because this is a good one. Reporter we have seen Donald Trump try to introduce some of these types of policy proposals, even though they often lack the Detail Or Substance to actually concretely make sense of how they would economically impact not only workers, but also the country here. We, of course, saw just two weeks ago him suggest that he was going to introduce a comprehensive Ivf Coverage Plan for all americans. We have received no details. You heard on the Debate Stage earlier this week that he had the components of a plan for healthcare policy, of course after nine years we have not seen that. So there is still a lot of outstanding questions about his own policy here going forward and what he would ultimately seek to work with congress to try to help pass come 2025. It seems like it is so difficult to get policy details. I guess thats over the Board Statement there on everybody. Amna, what are you seeing in trumps proposal, which, again, short on details, on no taxes for overtime . Well, jose, as vaughn pointed out, thats clearly a play meant to appeal to many of his Working Class Voters, which we know are deeply affected by this issue, we know were central to his victory back in 2016, and also central to his support today. As vaughn rightly pointed out, we havent yet gotten details from the campaign about how that would be implemented, how it would work, and we should also note that several economists we have been speaking to have raised some questions and concerns not only about i think i just we just lost amna. Lets try to reestablish communication with her, if we could. Aaron, back to you on this issue, the lack of details by the Trump Campaign, and not only just this campaign, but as vaughn was saying, were nine years in to his statement that he would be dealing with Health Insurance and that has yet to happen. Aaron, what is the democratic Harris Campaign have to say about details, lack of them, in policy proposals. Well, i think your point is right, jose, the Harris Campaign and the dnc for that matter have been trying to in the last couple of days in particular hit the Trump Campaign over that lack of details. As you noted, they make the point that the when trump was in office, there was an effort to get rid of, repeal the Obama Care and yet there was not a detailed plan on what to replace it with. And so the Harris Campaign has said, look, you see exactly the same thing again, where former President Trump was on the Debate Stage and given the opportunity to lay out a new plan, and wasnt able to articulate one. Wasnt able to even offer contours of a plan, much less details of a plan, so the Harris Campaign said, you know, particularly as it relates to healthcare that Obama Care works and the democrats have long talked about Making Adjustments to make it work better, but they believe it is something that has worked and would continue to work into the future. And would be something that would be useful and helpful as the Harris Campaign continues to roll out its plans and we also note that there are several instances where the Vice President was questioned during the debate for greater detail on some of the things that she wants to accomplish and didnt offer a full list of details if you will on some of the issues. But obviously the Healthcare Issue is one that they think they can hit the Trump Campaign over, over and over again, jose. I understand we have amna back. I can hear you, i think, i dont want to ever not hear you, so, amna, there is a Cnn Stat Poll that shows those who watched the debate said the Vice President overwhelmingly won. The same poll showed trump winning his June Debate against president biden by almost the same margin. Is this why the former president is not considering more debates . Well, jose, im glad you can hear me again. Apologies for that. Im not sure what happened previously, but, look, i, for one, if history is a guide would take anything the former president is saying right now about the potential for another debate with the grain of salt. Hes previously expressed reluctance to participate in debates and then has ultimately ended up doing one with biden and now doing one with harris. It is the circumstances are different now. What that debate would look like, because they have now kind of debated each other. We see what the contours were. It didnt go particularly well for him. She was able to go to him and to reacting to several issues that are not central to what republicans want him to be messaging on. And thats why it is interesting to see folks like john thune, number two in the senate, among republicans saying there should be another debate because, again, republicans i talked to want President Trump talking about the economy. They want her pressing former Vice President harris on things like immigration, that was not the focus of the debate this last time. So, whether or not they will face off again remains to be seen, i think thats very much a question in these next several weeks. Yeah, and, vaughn, with this election right around the corner, the former president is plugging a new Crypto Business Venture . Reporter we have very scant details, jose, on this new Crypto Business that the former president announced yesterday that he will be launching this upcoming monday. He will be announcing it from his maralago estate. We, of course, have seen him profit off of other Business Ventures since announcing his candidacy in 2022. Of course, selling sneakers, selling perfumes, he, of course, sold a bible along with Lee Greenwood in which he made money off of. And this Crypto Business, though, is going to be really telling, his sons eric and don jr. Are part of this planned announcement, exactly the extent to what aspects of crypto this business will involve, it is not clear exactly to what extent is he proprietor of this, it is not clear. Right now in georgia, the State Senate committee is holding a hearing investigating Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is overseeing the criminal Election Interference Case against former president Donald Trump. Willis is not at the hearing, and defying subpoenas from the committee ordering her to testify. Joining us now, msnbc legal correspondent Lisa Rubin and greg bluestein, an msnbc political contributor. So, greg, what is this hearing all about today . Yeah, this is the latest in a long line of partisan attempts investigating Fani Willis conduct, really one of the aims here is to discredit her Election Interference Case. It is going to lead to a big legal battle with her attorney saying the subpoenas arent valid because theyre too broad and legal experts say the Georgia Legislatures Subpoena Power has never been tested under Georgia Law and they expect this to go all the way up to one of the state Appeals Courts. The mantra here is republicans have really gone to different lengths in georgia and beyond to try to discredit Fani Willis and put her under pressure. So, lisa, the d. A. Decided not to attend. Do we know why not and what are the repercussions to that decision . I think well start with the second. We dont know what the repercussions of the decision are because as greg just noted, the Validity And Enforceability of subpoenas issued by the Georgia Legislature is an issue of first impression inz courts. She has moved to quash the subpoena from the legislature, meaning hold it invalid. She has two arguments. One, it was improperly issued because the legislature that issued it was no longer the same one that was in session last march. But also she has said it has no legitimate legislative purpose. It is solely designed to embarrass her, the questions and the subpoena and the documents that it calls for are really of a personal nature, and Part And Parcel of what is already being litigated in the Court System in terms of his disqualification. So, lisa, meantime, yesterday, the judge in trumps georgia Election Interference Case has struck three more counts from the indictment. What are they and how do you reach a decision . So of the three counts, jose, two of them stand against former President Trump, and they both deal with filing of documents in a court and specifically a federal court in georgia. One of the documents was trumps verification of a complaint during the 2020 election season, when he filed a lawsuit against Georgia Governor Brian kemp. The other is the sending of the actual fake electors certificate. Again, to that same georgia federal court, and Judge Scott Mcafee of the Fulton County superior Court Ruling Yesterday that because of that particular nature of the documents, they were filed with a federal court, that the Supremacy Clause of the u. S. Constitution necessitates letting the federal government take precedence here to the extent that there is a crime at all, it is for the federal government to enforce. So, greg, what does this mean for trump in this case . It means the underlying racketeering charges still stand. So, the crux of the case still stands, but were still at this time where the entire case is still in question. Were still waiting for an Appeals Court Ruling for the Appeals Court to decide whether or not on the case of misconduct related to Fani Willis romantic we just lost Greg Today as well. Nbc News Justice and Intelligence Correspondent Ken Dilanian joins us this morning. Ken, good morning. What do we know . Reporter thats right, jose. The fbi has said this was an iranianbacked effort, a Hack And Leak operation where they use the Spear Fishing Technique to gain access to certain Email Addresses and steal documents from the Trump Campaign and then certain News Organizations have said they were offered those documents through an online persona named robert. And what were learning is that the Fbi Investigation is focusing on that online persona and who was involved in this specifically and are preparing to file criminal charges. It stands to reason the people being charged in this case are overseas and out of the reach of the u. S. Justice department. The doj in recent years made a habit of doing these kinds of Name And Shame cases when a Nation State is interfering in our politics. Thats what it looks like is going to happen here. So it would seem to point to the iranian regime . Reporter yeah, thats what the fbi already said, this was an operation, this attempt to hack in was a successful hack of the Trump Campaign, attempt to hack into the biden Harris Campaign, that this was an iraniansponsored operation, and it was an effort to do a Hack And Leak and dump, though they apparently hacked some material, but we have not seen any of that material, none of the News Organizations that were offered it have published it. And iranians for any reason have not put it online themselves. We understand one of the things that was obtained was a dossier of Opposition Research on jd vance, before he was named the Vice President ial candidate. And it may be that the stuff just wasnt very interesting. And they havent gotten any more of it. And so we havent seen it, jose. Ken dilanian, thank you so very much. Venezuelan Opposition Leader Maria Corina Machado has spoken with an american official for the first time since Opposition President ial candidate went into exile in spain. Machado told senate foreign Relations Committee Chair Ben Cardin that the fight against venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro will go on. Shes been in hiding since after the election, when the opposition showed ballots proving that he did not win. Senator, i thank you so much for your time. Wondering what your conversation with Maria Corina Machado was like. Jose, first of all, good to be with you, great to be able to talk with her, to let her know we support the will of the venezuelan people. We admire her courage. Were concerned about her safety. And were going to continue to do all we can to make sure that the will of the people is adhered to, the Maduro Regime has no legitimacy, we know that. They need to release those that have been detained and stop threatening people and release the returns of the election and allow the will of the people to go forward. She told me that she will continue her fight for this and i let her know that we in congress strongly support what she is doing. And, senator, i apologize there is a Fivesecond Delay between us today, well fix for the next time, i apologize for the delay, as you know better than anybody else, there have been more than 2,000 arrests in venezuela since the elections, including more than 100 children, more than 20 people have been killed. Repression is on the increase in that country. What is your message to the people of venezuela who are listening to you right now . Youre absolutely right. We know that there has been so many people detained, arrested, harassed. We know that were pleased that the person who won that election is safely in spain. We recognize he was at risk. Hes receiving a Heros Welcome in spain. We also recognize that the united states, through action, can make it clear that we stand with the venezuelan people. We are considering legislation. I expect well see bipartisan Legislation Move through the united states senate. Were going to make it clear that the Maduro Regime has no legitimacy and it must release the results of the election and adhere to the will of the venezuelan people. Senator, yesterday, the biden administration imposed new sanctions on 16 venezuelan officials allied with maduro in response to this Voter Fraud in the july elections. There are other sanctions against the Maduro Regime that have been removed by the biden administration. Do you think they should be reinstituted . Thats absolutely under consideration. I was pleased to see the biden Administration Take immediate action in regards to the new sanctions. We are looking at ways in which we can enforce those sanctions as part of legislation. There is other areas we think we can act on to make it clear there will be a penalty to pay if the Maduro Regime does not release those that have been unlawfully detained and start their repressive practices. We also think it is absolutely essential that they release the results. The will of the people needs to be adhered to. And to date they have refused to do that. We know by the polling that was done and the returns that we looked at that the opposition clearly won the election. We know that. And it is time that maduro acknowledge the results of those elections and we will take action and build upon what the biden administration has done as far as sanctions to strengthen that, and to isolate the Maduro Regime. Breaking news, moments ago we saw singer Justin Timberlake going into court in Long Island after reaching a Plea Deal in his case for allegedly driving while intoxicated. He was pulled over last june after allegedly driving through a Stop Sign in the Hamptons Area of Long Island. Joining us now, nbcs chloe melas. Chloe what do we know about this Plea Deal today . Hey there, jose. It looks like hes struck some sort of a Plea Deal. We know hes going to be pleading guilty to some sort of lesser charge, but we dont know exactly what that entails. I did speak to lawyer Misty Maris moments ago who said it is likely that his Drivers License will be suspended for up to a year and that this really isnt celebrity treatment, that he has struck some sort of a Plea Deal with prosecutors, because he is a first time offender. Now, remember, the Police Report at the time of his arrest on june 18th, the officer said that Justin Timberlake had told him he only had one martini. Up to this point, Justin Timberlakes attorney Edward Berk Jr. , he has maintained that Law Enforcement made errors and he actually was admonished by the judge earlier this summer, i was in the courtroom when that happened, when the judge said that he needed to raise the bar, not lower it. And thats when he suspended Justin Timberlakes license for the duration of this case. But it will be interesting to see if justin has to pay some sort of a fine, community service, take any sort of Driving Class or course. And also, i just want to point out, there are cameras set up for what looks like to be some sort of a Press Conference on the steps of the courthouse in sag harbor, Long Island. Im assuming were going to hear from Justin Timberlakes attorney but we might hear from justin himself for the very first time. He has not addressed what happened in June Head on at all. Strike Strike Strike Strike Strike Strike Strike production is expected to come to a halt on many of Boeings Aircraft after workers in the Seattle Area and oregon voted by more than 94 to reject a tentative agreement by boeing and their union. Joining us now is nbcs tom costello. Tom, good morning. What are the key sticking points here . Bottom line is the company had offered a 25 Pay Hike over four years to boeing employees, but that was a staggering rejection, as you said, 94. 6 . Okay, but there is a caveat here. 25 Pay Hike over four years, they would have to give up their benefits. Yes they got some improvements to other benefits, but they already lost their pensions. And their wages have been stagnant for ten years. So, the company had offered this, said it was the best offer, the union said no. You had our wages stagnant for ten years, you took away our pensions and now youre going to give us the slow rollout of a Pay Hike. A very staggering rejection. This has been a year in which boeing has had a bit of a bad year, from bad to worse. Remember everything it has been dealing with. The midair blowout, max 9 door plug, that led as you know to federal investigations and determination that the Safety Culture at boeing had broken down. The entire Production Line slowed during that process. It is only now starting to resume. The company pleaded guilty to criminal fraud charges related to the max 8 crashes overseas, more than five years ago, that killed 346 people. And then oh, by the way, the Boeing Starliner Spacecraft which as you know, they had problems with. It left the two astronauts up on the Space Station and brought the Starliner Home alone. It landed safely without astronauts last saturday morning. So, again, a bad year for boeing is only getting worse, with this huge rejection. The Boeing Workforce walking off the job and what does that mean for the economy . Listen, boeing is thought to contribute as much as half a percent to the countrys gdp. It is a huge factor. And, according to cnbc, it could cost the company upwards of A Billion dollars a month if this strike lasts quite a while. The last strike, they were out for 58 days, jose. So the stakes are big. But the union members have decided theyre simply not going to take it anymore and it comes in the context, as you know, of all of these Labor Movements across the country, they have stood up to companies and earned huge pay increases and boeing workers say we want some of that too. If you want to make a case that your a campaign focused on working people and youre going to be their champion, you need to talk about that with regularity and consistency.
