MSNBC The 11th Hour With Stephanie Ruhle October 6, 2024

Jd vance showed up tonight to put a smoother sheen on trumpism. If anybody took a High School Civics Class they would know what the Vice President can do and what the Vice President cannot do. Did he lose the 2020 election . The explosive newly unsealed filing from special counsel jack smith. Donald trump is not fit to lead this good and great nation. President obama to hit the Campaign Trail for Kamala Harris. There is a place for you with us and in this campaign. Im probably casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. Come November 5th i will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Good evening. Once again, i am Stephanie Ruhle and we are now just 32 days away from the election. Get your scorecards out because a lot is happening this week. We have what is likely the final debate between vp candidates Tim Walz and Jd Vance faced off. Kamala harris shared the stage with republican Liz Cheney and Donald Trump cried foul after jack smiths latest filing came packed with new revelations about trumps efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Meanwhile in the Middle East, a Threeday Dockworker Strike in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene could weigh on the outcome of the election. We have a lot to cover. Lets bring in our night cap. [ inaudible ] author of the new memoir, remember you are a wily. It was the cleanest shiniest brandnew Jd Vance who did a better Job Peddling dangerous elements of trumpism and Donald Trump or Ron Desantis ever has. Is that the Jd Vance were likely to get for the next 30 days because it is the opposite of the man on the Campaign Trail. I imagine it is. He was well spoken. He was articulate and he lied through the entire debate about a lot of important factors including dodging a question on the results of the 2020 election but it was slick. They used to call Bill Clinton slick willie. There is a certain component of this that may resonate with Jd Vance. He got away with a lot and because Tim Walz did not Fact Check him and do his job as the debate upon it i think it wouldve otherwise gone differently, and we kind of seen him corrected from time to time. What does it say about your policies . When you have to lie about what you actually want to do. It says that you know better and dont care. One of the most amazing things in the debate, said several times, he wants to regain the american Peoples Trust on the Abortion Issue and i was screaming at my television, what are you talking about regain trust . Trust to do what. They seem to take no responsibility for what they have actually done and were making some lofty promise about making us feel better. It was obviously empty. I thought. Just a few hours before the debate Donald Trump had a rally and in that rally he spouted a complete Word Salad News conference. I ask this all the time. Of Kamala Harris did the same she gives a lofty answer and people lose their mind that they dont know enough detail. He did not even bustout a coherent sentence. Can we just talk about the double standard . Its not the first time. Thats the other thing. This is not new and it is why some democrats are really frustrated about the double standard for joe biden. You know, remember him . So the double standard is amazing and shocking and all i can say is we are still in a state in this race and in this country where people are much more concerned about their underlying beliefs on the facts, and weve got to do something about that. Look, i have to say, as debates go, as long as were not grading somebody on honesty and character, Jd Vance did just great and Tim Walz failed miserably at correcting Jd Vances lies about 100 Billion to iran, lies about Donald Trump saving obama care, and lies about how there is a rule youre not supposed to Fact Check, Jd Vances lies that Jd Vance has never called for a full abortion ban. Tim walz failed to correct these lies are clearly Jd Vance is the winner. I agree with ron. The Senators Human Suit was fitting much better last night but at The End of the day he is still a petulant, dishonest Eyeliner Model who will go down in the books on this campaign for where trump started his political career with a racist lie about a black president , perhaps his political career is ending with this racist lie about legal haitian migrants. Shady fans is all of the kids who vanished in the chocolate factory tour. John, not one single Cosmetic Factory Representative has come forward and said he influenced represents them. He will lead the influence dollars next year. Do you think the Harris Campaign is Play It Safe . We were talking before the show about tim Walz And Everybody said havent seen them in a while. I wish they would start taking some bigger swings. It is now or never. Yeah, theres a month left. How do you think they should be playing It Safe . She has the historic benefit of running the shortest president ial campaign in history and the last thing you want to do is put so much stuff out there that you can get destroyed in the home stretch. If i were her political adviser i know shes doing a 60 Minutes Interview this weekend, i would be playing it just is safe. I would be in local spots. I would be traveling like crazy doing a lot of local ski tv. Im with ron on this but i want to say it plain. Black, asian, woman with the jewish husband got to Play It Safe, you all. This is still america where debating whether haitians eat dogs and cats of our neighbors this is not you have the first woman to actually be in this position, meaning in this position were we still have roughly 70 Million americans who dont care that Donald Trump actually incited a coup. You have to Play It Safe. There are different ways of playing It Safe. A person of that profile has to take it easy in some respects but there are bigger, louder things she could be doing. Tariffs, for example. They are wrong on the facts. It is terrible policy, not just bad for consumers so obviously it is. Its terrible for business and experts, too, and slam that home. Tim walz did say that in the debate. I wanted to be one of the main three things i hear from her over and over. I guess the question is that we are talking about a race with a lot of people who have made up their minds on one side or the other on the question really becomes, are you getting those undecideds because it is the undecideds this will be a Neuro Margin Race and im going to tell you, having run, the things that we think motivate people to fill in that little Bubble And Slide that she is often not the thing that motivates them for the last four years this White House is not done a great Job Singing from the rafters and i understand where they want to be careful because you dont want to run a Victory Lap and there are so many people suffering. I get that. However, democrats are guilty of saying there unwilling to say happy birthday until every single child in america has a cupcake. If they do not start singing there will be nothing. With all respect to maia because i live in a world where she is my mayor, i dont really think the democrats wisely are going for the undecideds anymore and after nine years, anyone who cant decide, i dont really need to know. Theyre going for the people who are decided but dont feel like voting. Theyre going for people who will vote to try to get them off the couch. Youre not going to sway the undecided and that is why the only way to do it is bold policy. Tell us what you know. There are two kinds of undecided. There are people deciding who to vote for but also a lot of people deciding whether to vote and if they do, they know its going to go one way or another. Thats really three buckets and you have to take different approaches with each of them. Right, you have to motivate your own side to get off the couch and show up that day and i think theyre focusing more on that wisely then focusing on changing anybodys minds. On the economy and stuff, they have the momentum now as of this morning. The Jobs Number was unequivocally strong. 250,000 jobs created. The Unemployment Rate dropped. Wages are growing faster than inflation now and have been for 18 months and you see this in the data. You see this in peoples purchasing power. The Household Network is over 250 trillion. The Dow Hit an alltime high today. [ inaudible ] i agree with you on every single point. Heres the thing. I talked about this on morning joe today. This is where i wish they would just connect these dots. Everything that you said is right. However, things still cost a lot of money when you go to a restaurant and thats not going to change and what i would like is if democrats could start saying out loud, in a Care Economy where we are trying to pay people more, we are for low wage workers are getting paid, theyre getting time off yes in some instances there is Price Gouging and corporate greed. However, when we raise wages that means things will cost more because you have the same people hold on. You have the same people saying I Cant believe that pizza just cost 26 bucks, forgetting that i know that youre happy that the people who are working there now [ inaudible ] i dont want to dominate but look. In california where they raise the Minimum Wage for Fast Food Workers to 15 an hour, 20 an hour, there are no more fast food Workers Today than they were prior to the Wage Hike and mcdonalds is selling Combo Meals for five bucks, so it is not a universal truth that every time you ways rages, prices go up. That was true in the 70s for other reasons. No, but how often are we just in our daily lives, people are going out for a burger and a beer and going, gosh, I Cant believe it costs x now and that ends up dominating the conversation. When there are prophets in the prices are still high the democrats have an opening to come in there and say yes, this is about corporate greed. Yes but we are also a country of small businesses and we have to be aware that when we talk about business, business also affects the little guy so small businesses will tell you their Input Costs are really high and regulations are difficult. I dont want to be a jerk. Can i throw out once more the latest census data between 2020 and 2022, Startup Jobs Have Startup Companies have created jobs. I agree with every Data Point that you have and you know who doesnt agree with the Two Of Us . The light in the economy and how people feel so we have to start thinking about what is making people feel this way . This is exactly what Barack Obama faced in 2012, recovery on people that paper that people were not really feeling. He was lucky to have romney to draw a contrast for voters to see. You are running against the millionaire at birth who cut his own taxes and has a golden toilet and Kamala Harris is the american success story. That is the narrative they need to be feeding. People are starting, when given the right information, to not feel as bad as they were a few months ago. Data is starting to add up into a feeling. Thats going to help and the reason i mention tariffs for example is that they are also responding to that when they hear about it. Thats going to be inflationary. I dont know that we are completely disagreeing so let me just say this. I think what i mean is of course they have to do a great job of singing their own praises about their success story. Of course. The thing that i find so frustrating about this kind of debate, about how bold they are being or not bold theyre being is it doesnt matter what she does. She gets criticized, and that is my point about being a Black Asian woman. Married to a jewish guy. Its like so, the critical thing here and i actually agree also that we are, when we are talking about yes you always have to get to basin there is a lot of things and she has the base, the energy is real, but it goes back to one of the things i think she is doing so well. She is talking about the future and when she is talking about the future, she is talking about small businesses. Shes talking about childcare. Shes talking about the cost of housing and these are the big structural issues that are so critical and she is and so we have to start saying she is. I think the boldness comes in what am i going to fight for, not how many News Media Appearances do i make and that is what turns on voters. When you think about those three buckets she could go after, this week we saw her on the stage with Liz Cheney. We know next Week Cassidy Hutchinson is going to be with her and a number of other former trump aides. Who do they pull from . When Liz Cheney co. Headlines an event with Kamala Harris, who is on her Guest List . I think that does two things. There is a small number of potential voters, basically people who are like Liz Cheney, former republicans who are sick of it and looking for validation for those feelings and she is a terrific example of that. I think it also sets a different tone that Kamala Harris is someone who is bringing people together and Donald Trump is not. Thats a great point. Is pushing people away. She has a few liberals like rfk. If you can go somewhere different, she got taylor swift, thats a big deal for a certain slice of the electorate, young females. She needs to go after young men in a way that is just not resonating. I agree with you. I agree with you. It is amazing the success Donald Trump has had with Young White Male from the we watched that interview a few weeks ago saying us what A Buffoon [ inaudible ] its incredibly successful how he is peeling them often part of it is that group of people dont feel like democrats are speaking to them. Yes, that is a problem but again, how is Donald Trump speaking to them . She is selling racism, pedaling scapegoating, peddling xenophobia. If this republican party had policies that would help non millionaires they would never shut up about them and they dont. It clearly is saying something to them theyre listening to. I dont think is just as obviously negative things. Everyones trying to be Joe Rogan now. That is something they seem to be responding to and it is not inherently evil but not also something democrats are offering. Democrats have not been talking to young men or have not been for the last five or 10 years. The response to it is much more stark that i would have expected but not entirely surprising. Im with steve here because just by us minimizing them that they are Joe Rogan want to be doing bros doesnt mean that their votes dont count. [ inaudible ] i am a parent of one, so i believe that they feel like in a universe where inclusivity is so important, which it is, theyre not only not seeing seen, but they are attacked and i know that is not the way democrats feel that this is an opportunity to go speak to them and say i know you care about the economy. I know you care about reproductive rights. Yes, but we need to see democrats start to do that. Yes, because they are the Party Fighting for these young men. They have a lot to offer and theyre not making the case. Then why is it not working . [ inaudible ] they do feel put upon by The Rapid Social Changes that are taking place in the fear of being canceled for having a particular Point Of View that is maybe more traditional than we would expect from 20year old white boys. There is almost i wouldnt call it a 1950s Style Field of what theyre going through but they are challenged by some of the changes taking place on campus and their social circles in the to field to a certain extent as if they are targeted. I talked to a group of kids from rutgers this week and they said that students dont feel like they can express views if they even border on conservative views because in a young super progressive world there immediately people are going to say your macho pig, youre xenophobic, youre the worst, youre toxic and so again im not saying these boys are the greatest but i am saying if she wants every vote that counts, theres a way to think about every demographic out there and say how do we bring them in. So, heres the problem. I agree, true democracy means we are having the debates we need to have. We are understanding the experiences of all our people and anyone vying for Anybodys Boat is able to figure out how to talk to all of those demographics and that includes young men who are white. And black. And everything, and everything. I mean, my point is here that i think we have to acknowledge that there is something going on in this culture that is deeply unhealthy and dangerous and its very difficult to put it all simply on a politician running for office of what some of this undercurrent is. The reality of Rape Culture is quite real. When i say Rape Culture i dont mean everyone out here on a College Campus was a young man is a rapist but the reality of what is happening with the taxon, and having programs that say we have to find a way to understand the experiences of others, to read each Others Sister is another was quite real and the only reason im having trouble with this conversation is not the premise that we should not vilify or the premise that we should not be having a conversation that pulls young white men into the conversation. It is that it is also fundamentally a problem in our democracy that we are this deeply divided and that the solis that some seekers and the permission to be something other than accepting of the hard conversations on all sides, but are in particular, what does it mean to say that Kamala Harris, who has worked so hard to be a unifying candidate, is constantly blamed for falling short on something that society itself is not fixing. True. When we return, President Obama is back on the Campaign Trail and sore republican women who worked for trump. Later, how ideas can take off like wildfire. My conversation with Malcolm Gladwell, the 11th Hour continues. The 11th Hour continues. Former President Obama hits the Campaign Trail this week taking on the Battleground State Blitz for harris. Lets talk about super surrogates. Choosing obama will make a difference. A lot of people who voted for obama turned and voted for trump. It makes a difference for me. I think it makes a huge difference, certainly for certain categories of voters. The Energy Level on the encouragement to smoother sheen on trumpism. If anybody took a High School Civics Class they would know what the Vice President can do and what the Vice President cannot do. Did he lose the 2020 election . The Energy Level on the encouragement to turnout level, and i think it is important to show again, her big tent. I actually think it is Michelle Obama who will be the real ringer for her, just as she was of the democratic national convention. He said it and it was true. He did a good job. She was the mic drops. Again, i think it is incredibly important for her that she keeps showing and demonstrating the breadth of the leadership and the crosssection of support she gets. Hold on. Heres a question. Another celebrity endorsement, not political. Taylor swift, biggest celebrity on the planet right now endorses Kamala Harris. In 24 hours, Donald Trump goes out i hate Trail Taylor swift. But for the most part, swifties, theres a good chance theyre voting for harris. In the last 24 hours, bruce springsteen, who is truly red white and blue, Donald Trump has not said a word about bruce springsteen. What do you make of that . I think Donald Trump is a pretty while a character when it comes to celebrities. Oh, Come On. You can do better than that. Listen. Hes an old white guy with an old white Audience And Trump needs those voters in his just going to shut up about it. Amazing, quick to go after the young girl, says nothing about the white celebrity. Donald trump has always been apoplectic when women do not do always. He is a little bit of a sexist misogynist. Theres two things Donald Trump is afraid of, a strong woman and a strong wind so god help us out all of beyonci comes out and gives a public endorsement. I would pay money for that. I think Mark Cuban has been one of the most impactful surrogates out there. Just before we took a break we were talking about cuban has been making the argument that mass tariffs and deportation of immigrants would be very difficult for the country and he has done it better than anyone has done it so far. Were talking about how Kamala Harris needs to reach all these different groups. Shes going on 60 minutes this week. Donald trump is not. He pulled out of a 60 Minutes Interview because of Fact Checking. Tdoes that tell you that hes going to spend the next 30 days not standing sidebyside with Nikki Haley pulling in more voters but going back to the base. This is why am furious with everyone talking about Kamala Harris avoiding the media. Donald trump avoids any media where he might be asked a Followup Question. He will not do it because he cannot stand up to scrutiny. Hes never been asked and adequate Followup Question about his lies about Barack Obamas citizenship. His fans still believe Obama Wasnt born here [ inaudible ] he has set down for interviews before. He lies and lies and lies but he has done it. October 2005 when i was doing to see your profile for your Estate Usa Today and he hung up on me because my questions were too negative. Weve all had that experience. Hes a tender soul. He needs careful handling. 60 minutes a site was wise to have Liz Cheney there because we saw Nikki Haley get up to one third of the conservative republican vote in cities in the republican primaries. That is why we saw Liz Cheney on that stage this week. Weve waited 20 years to see the gop punished cheney for telling lies. They punish Liz Cheney for telling the truth but she is creating a Permission Structure for older republicans who dont feel right about this to go ahead and vote for a democrat. Ill tell you what i think is going to happen. Shes going to go on 60 minutes and is going to go fine and if it goes any better the thing he does best is a couple of the Attention Economy and take eyes off her. Thats exactly what he did in the bait, he started talking about eating cats and dogs. The more people see her the more they like her and he is hearing that, too so he is like im going to make it so people dont see her. He is a Tennis Ball Machine and he volleys these yellow balls in the media chases down every ball. When we come back, but it takes for a single idea to go viral. My conversation with Malcolm Bradwell about his new book. When the nightcap continues. Packed with the power of robitussin. In every bite. Easy to take cough relief, anywhere. Chew on relief, chew on a Robitussin Man look at this silly little sailboat. Chew on a these men of means with their silver spoons, eating up the financial favors of the 1 . What would become of them when they discover robinhood gold allows others to earn their very liberal rates on idle cash, unlimited Deposit Bonuses and handsome Retirement Matching . They would descend into chaos. Merciless chaos. The world has changed a lot since Malcolm Gladwell published his first book, the Tipping Point. Now hes ready to return to the work that made him a Household Name with his new book, revenge of the Tipping Point. This is such an honor for me. It was almost 25 years ago the world met you with Tipping Point. What made you decide to go back now . I dont want to say what was the Tipping Point that would make you say yep, its time. Originally i was just going to do the kind of revised silver Anniversary Edition of Tipping Point so i read it for the first time in 20 25 years. I hadnt looked at it in this entire time. It was like looking at your High School yearbook. It was like wow. That was a long time ago. I did not want to revise it or could not revise it in too much had happened and i was arguing with myself about what i wrote 25 years ago so i just decided im just going to write a whole new one. I had an existing Book Project that i just set aside and went and wrote the book from scratch. In the mission . The mission was i realized looking back at the first book, the first book was very helpful and all about written when i was in my mid30s in the late 90s when the world just seemed like it was getting better and better, and this is a book about how to make it even better and now i feel like im a little more concerned about the ways in which people have used epidemics for nefarious purposes. You write about this fear of bad actors taking over, right . The laws of the very few controlling everything. Explain that, because a lot of people have those fears right now. Yeah, i mean, the book begins and ends, sort of framed by the opioid crisis. I tell a new story about a new way of making sense of what happened, focusing On Perdue and oxycontin. Basically it is about how the reason they were able to turn oxycontin into something this extraordinary crisis that has enveloped us, is they really took the lessons of epidemic changed to heart. They did not try to reach every doctor in the country. That is not how epidemics work. Epidemics work its always a very small number of people at the center of an epidemic. It was true of covid. It was true wealth you name the they were able to identify a handful of doctors who were susceptible to their marketing message, the Love Nothing more than being wined and dined by a sales rep, who saw No Problem with Writing Prescriptions by the thousands for oxycontin and just focused on that. That was the strategy, find the 1 of people who matter and convince them to write mounds of prescriptions. Thats epidemic thinking. That is just one example. When you think about bad actors taking over, is that why you are voicing their vote to support in this election . You said you were going to support Kamala Harris, so could retie those two things together . Well, theres a number of reasons. Im half jamaican. She is half jamaican. She grew up in canada. I grew up in canada. Every jamaican in my life is like a talk to my mom, its like,,,. My dad taught his dad. Her dad. My dad taught her dad at the University Of West Indies in 1960. I have so many points of connection. I could not but be a supporter. You do a lot of provocative things in the book. Among many provocative arguments you make, you criticize not just higher education but the ivy league. You are not alone in doing so, the your dad i meant to call you in 15 years and ask you if you really dont want your daughters to go to princeton but wait a few more years. Explain to us why you feel this way. I was trying to make sense of this strange fact that Harvard University has more Varsity Sports than any other university in the country. They have more money. Its not about money, and theyre also obsessed with sports in this kind of really bizarre way that you know, the front door to get into harvard is difficult. Its the most competitive school in the world but there is a backdoor if you are rich. There is a backdoor if youre a legacy, there is a backdoor if youre a Faculty Kid and there is a backdoor if you are an athlete. No more affirmativeaction but if you are a superstar lacrosse player, Come On in. No, yes. They will lower their standards and recruit you from the other side of the world. I was was trying to figure out why do you care so much about filling their campus with athletes to the point where they take their own high standards and take them down to the floor and welcoming these kids who grow or fence or do all these Play Rugby as an example i use. I think it is about it is a kind of strategy to maintain the group proportions of harvard. In other words, they like kids who play rich people sports because it is a way of maintaining the culture of white american privilege at harper. I think it is as simple as that. Walk through the argument about why that is the case because i dont think there is any other reason why they should be so obsessed with sports. We think of university of Alabama Or Clemson as being sports obsessed. Yes, but you get why alabama is. You understand the hundreds of millions of dollars that alabama football brings in, but harvard rowing, not so much. That is not the game they are playing. That is tied to an idea i play a lot within the book, which is that there are organizations, institutions have test Tipping Points. They change the nature of the organization, and so what i believe harvard is doing is trying to keep the nonprivileged elements of the school below the magic third and they do that by stuffing themselves with rich athletes. You love to be provocative. I do. Is it getting harder to be provocative today at a time when we really like to put people in categories and if we say anything thats out of that category, people are in a tizzy and a lot of others who consider themselves provocateurs right now are really just flamethrowers. I mean, i would say that i like to be i would not call myself a provocateur. I am someone who likes to raise interesting questions that prompt people to look at the world around them a little differently so if that is provocation, i plead guilty but it is not the same as im not throwing bombs but im trying to get people to say to look at something from a different perspective, you know, i have a chapter in a book on this school called poplar grove. Thats not his real name and its a perfect town. I went there. It is the perfect suburb. Its like anyone who went there would want to live there in their High School has had this ongoing crisis for the last 10, 15 years and that story, it is a sort of heartbreaking story and the moral of the story is that sometimes the very things we do to ensure the best possible outcome for our kids are hurting our kids and is that a provocative statement . I guess, in a certain way, but the intention of that chapter is to make, particularly people of privilege, make people take a step back and say, why are we doing the things were doing . Are we doing them for the benefit of our children or because we as parents feel better when we create these kind of Hothouse Environments for our kids . Nobody is going anywhere. The nightcap is back. Time to hear Everybodys Mvp of the week. Steve. Im going with international Longshoremens Association workers union. They had a huge week. They went on strike. Everyone thought it was going to cripple the countrys economy. They got it settled in three days. They got 60 more raise over the next six years. Thats a huge win for all those workers and also we got to meet Harold Daggett who is the president of the union who is quite a character. For me, ive been in New York for a long long time. Ive not heard that good of a new York Accent it probably 20 years. Next time we come back and can bring my mother. Melania trump. Why, because she tried to charge cnn 250,000 to do an interview with her . Yes, thats the first part. Also because she came out in favor of a womans right to choose. Do actually buy this . She comes out in her book do actually believe that is part of this or really is it just to accuse people more of going i dont really know what transposition is on abortion. That is kind of my point is that it is a maneuver that either she is saying something to upset the Apple Cart and get even with him, or two, confuse the situation and there is a certain degree of i think it is interesting to me that she did it. I dont buy it for a moment but it is a bit of a showstopper in a certain sense, that the former president s wife went out and did something antithetical to his Running Mate for sure, and is just muddying the waters when it comes to his public position on abortion. There are a lot of women out there who disagree with her husband about reproductive rights and then secretly go and vote for democrats and i wonder if weve discovered a new one. Can you imagine . I am not supporting rons position, but for me, it is kate bar, who is running for State Senate in North Carolina on the I Cant Win slogan. I love this woman. This is everything Jd Vance hates and a woman. She has advanced degrees, is really smart. Shes an entrepreneur. No idea about cats. She has young kids and works and she is running because her district is one of the most deeply gerrymandered in the country, North Carolina being one of the worst states for this and so she is running. She says somebody should be on the ticket. We can raise some money, we can raise some Hell And Show exactly how gerrymandering is working and everybody deserves a choice and i just love it and she has a sweatshirt with those loser on it. Thats amazing. John. I chose melania trumps ghostwriter. When i was very young my dad pulled me out of bed and had we watch Tv And I cant believe he did it but they were rebroadcasting jimmy carters signing a peace accord. He could not believe in American Christian had helped bring peace to a corner of the Middle East and he wanted his son there to witness it because to them him, that is Everything America and christianity can and should be. President carter won the nobel prize. He created more Jobs Per year than reagan, Bush And Trump combined. President carter is a hero in his good deeds will live beyond and has been a model for christians who actually read the words of jesus instead of waving them around like a prop. And he is a truly kind man who has lived a life in service to others. Everybody is hanging out just a bit longer because when we come back it is time for my mvp. T i my mvp of the week is somebody you dont know but you should, Maas Brennan. His volunteer firefighter, emergency medical Technician And Editorinchief of the watauga democrat, and teeny tiny Weekly Newspaper in North Carolina. He began covering Hurricane Helene is a reporter, monitoring the flooding and taking pictures for the paper but he realized the storm was so much worse than anyone in the region anticipated so this guy jumped into action, performing lifesaving rescues getting his neighbors to safety than put his Reporter Hat back on and with his team, Got Life Saving Information to the community despite power outages, limited internet and very hazardous conditions. In fact, this guy drove around town and places the Post Office still cannot get to and he hand delivered the paper. On this show, you know, we talk about it all the time, the power and importance of local journalism. The watauga and democrat and its Editor In Chief Maas Brennan are the greatest examples this week of White Local News truly matters. Please look at this paper. Ron, stephen, john, maia, thank you all so much for being here. Its the first time. Did you like it . It was great. On that note i wish you a great night. Matcha saturdays at 11 00 p. M.
