One died in hospital and three were pronounced dead at the scene. Macintosh said the crane operator hasn’t been found but police believe his body is buried in the rubble. The upper portion of the crane smashed into a neighbouring building, leaving most of its support tower attached. The accident happened near St. Paul Street and Bernard Avenue around 11 a.m. at the Bernard Block, a major three-tower residential and commercial project being constructed by Okanagan builder Mission Group. The collapse, which occurred during the dismantling process, knocked out power for most of Kelowna’s downtown core and forced an evacuation of the area as the city declared an ongoing state of local emergency.
