Welcome to Sisters In Law, news.com.au's weekly column solving all of your legal problems. This week, our resident lawyers and real-life sisters Alison and Jillian Barrett from Maurice Blackburn help a mum about her rights regarding how her ex-husband looks after their daughter.

Question:
I have shared custody of my seven-year-old daughter with my ex-husband. Our relationship ended very badly after he cheated but I try to keep it civil for our girl. Recently though he's really trying my patience. He's got a newish girlfriend so my daughter does things with both of them on her days there. Fine, I have no problem with the new girlfriend. What I do have a problem with is that they've done a few things without my permission - including taking my daughter to get her ears pierced, cutting her hair substantially and taking her go-carting which I think is dangerous. What are my rights? Can my ex-husband do whatever he likes with my daughter when she's with him? - Lisa, Sydney
