ALLIANCE When the first movement of Frédéric Chopin's Concerto No. 1 fills Maira Liliestedt's ears, she feels a sense of heartbreak and hope. "There's a lot of fight (in this piece), so to me it feels like someone fighting to work through really difficult times," Liliestedt said. The 43-year-old pianist used to play a recording of the piece whenever she felt down. For years, she dreamed of performing it, but she wasn't certain that goal would come to life. When the pandemic hit, Liliestedt decided to begin learning the piece. This fall, she plans to perform it with the Alliance Symphony Orchestra.
