N.J. zoo hoping for a love connection with new snow leopard arrival NJ.com 3/9/2021 A new snow leopard has joined the critter collection at Cape May County Zoo. Maliha, an 8-year-old female, arrived from the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, and will be paired up with male snow leopard Bataar as part of the zoo’s breeding program. The new arrival was made possible under a species survival project, because Maliha and Bataar are a strong genetic match, officials said. “We are excited to continue the work that Himani, our original female snow leopard, started over 10 years ago,” said Dr. Alexander Ernst, associate veterinarian at the zoo. “Every successful birth is a small step towards the preservation of the species in the wild.”
