The Northern Environmental Action Team (NEAT) says garden preparations will begin on May 22nd. Gardener’s with a plot last year will have first dibs on their beds, and the remaining beds will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. NEAT took over the project that the North Peace Justice Society previously ran for several years. Karen Mason-Bennett says the organization didn’t have enough staff to continue managing the garden, so NEAT stepped in. “Last year, we were lucky enough to get a grant through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. That provided us with a full-time staff member, and then we had two additional support persons that we’re able to give us a hand throughout the summer.”
