NEAT community garden registrations open

The Northern Environmental Action Team (NEAT) says garden preparations will begin on May 22nd.
Gardener’s with a plot last year will have first dibs on their beds, and the remaining beds will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
NEAT took over the project that the North Peace Justice Society previously ran for several years.
Karen Mason-Bennett says the organization didn’t have enough staff to continue managing the garden, so NEAT stepped in.
“Last year, we were lucky enough to get a grant through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. That provided us with a full-time staff member, and then we had two additional support persons that we’re able to give us a hand throughout the summer.” ....

Local organizations receive public safety, environment grants

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – Two local organizations have each received a provincial grant to expand environmental and public safety programs in the community.
The North Peace Justice Society received $18,000 and the Northern Environmental Action Team received $25,500 from Community Gaming Grants, the province announced Tuesday.
“Our government is committed to supporting local organizations involved in a wide variety of activities that contribute to building vibrant, healthy communities,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs in a release.

“This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue, and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come.” ....
