Local organizations receive public safety, environment grants

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – Two local organizations have each received a provincial grant to expand environmental and public safety programs in the community.
The North Peace Justice Society received $18,000 and the Northern Environmental Action Team received $25,500 from Community Gaming Grants, the province announced Tuesday.
“Our government is committed to supporting local organizations involved in a wide variety of activities that contribute to building vibrant, healthy communities,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs in a release.

Local conservation and public safety programs get funds
Non-profits are receiving more than $11 million from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants to boost conservation and public safety programs that will benefit British Columbians around the province.
A total of 14 projects in the East Kootenay are getting $427,250 in this funding round.
Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs stated, “This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue, and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come.”
The province is providing about $4.8 million to 138 environmental organizations in 2020-21. These programs will create opportunities for people to learn about, connect with and protect nature. ....

Cranbrook Food Bank Society gets funding boost
The Cranbrook Food Bank Society is receiving $250,000 from the B.C. Community Gaming Grants program.
The funds will be used for the construction of a new facility to support food distribution in the region. The building will be shared with two other local not-for-profits – Cranbrook Food Recovery and Farm Kitchen.
“We are extremely grateful for this construction grant supporting our new facility designed for safe, efficient food recovery, storage and distribution to those who need it. Our clients and community will reap the benefits of two food security-focused organizations sharing one space, instead of the current three,” said Deanna Kemperman, Cranbrook Food Bank Society coordinator. ....
