Network Rail delivers £116M of upgrades over the Easter weekend More than 600 projects were undertaken on the UK rail network over the four day Easter weekend including two bridge pushes to upgrade an underpass below the Chiltern main line at Bicester. The £12.3M scheme involved moving two precast concrete underpasses, weighing up to 1,600t, into position below the rail line to reduce traffic congestion in Bicester as part of a project for Homes England, Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council. After removing 400m of track, engineers from Story Contracting and Network Rail excavated 21,000t of ground from the embankment the precast units were moved into position using a Mammoet self-propelled modular transporter.
