For New Hanover County Schools, special education positions are frequently hard to fill. But this year, they're hoping better pay and strategic recruitment plans will begin to draw in more special education teachers, along with numerous other positions that remain unfilled. With a new increase in pay supplements from the county, New Hanover County Schools hope to bring in more applications from highly qualified teaching candidates as teachers in the district become among the best paid in the state. In June, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved a budget that more than doubled the average teacher pay supplement.
