For years, the sun has been shining but for the past 10 years, dry conditions have been scorching the land, according to meteorologists here in New Mexico. This year's drought is quite possibly the worst on record. According to the U. S. Drought monitor, almost 80% of the state is in a extreme drought affecting farmers, decreasing water allotments and increasing fire danger. So those major waterways such as the Rio grande and the Associated Press Escape means that there will be less water available in those in those watersheds. Although many fires are human caused. The prolonged drought is a factor. There's a lot of fuel out there and that's why it's important for landowners and really entire communities to be prepared for wildfire. Because it's not a matter of if it's when most people think fires can only happen during the summertime, but with conditions like these it can happen any time warming climate. These increasing temperatures, prolonged drought all combined is a recipe for wildfire and it doesn't matter what time of year anymore.
