Since officially taking office on Nov. 20, new Northville Township Supervisor Mark Abbo has hit the ground running; well, at least as fast as COVID-19 restrictions will allow. The Northville Republican soundly defeated incumbent and write-in candidate Robert Nix for the second time in three months. Abbo, who previously served three terms as supervisor from 2000-2012, also upended Nix in the Aug. 4 Republican primary (there were no Democratic candidates running for the position). Abbo noted the transition in the township's top spot is going as smoothly as possible in the midst of a pandemic. "It's not going as quickly as I would have liked, given the COVID restrictions, but it is what it is," Abbo said. "Ideally, I like to meet with people in-person because you can get a better sense of what's going on. It's easier to get more clarity when you're face-to-face with someone as opposed to talking on the phone.
