LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Getting vaccinated for COVID-19 is causing some women unnecessary fear that they might have breast cancer.
New recommendations recently issued by The Society of Breast Imaging suggest waiting to schedule a mammogram for four to six weeks after receiving a COVID vaccine.
Some vaccine patients may experience enlarged lymph nodes which could hinder an accurate mammogram reading.
“If you can not follow these recommendations, then come on in for study. We’re asking you about your vaccination history. And we’re using that information as we interpret your screening mammogram,” said Dr. Taj Kattapuram, radiologist with Gundersen Health System.
