Yes, a large part is to keep people free from Covid-19 or this dreaded new strain, but it is also about keeping people safe from loneliness, malnutrition, dehydration and premature death that comes with it. Covid-safe is about ensuring people are kept connected, don’t die lonely and enjoy their final years. Covid-safe is ensuring we don’t wait for people to show signs of suffering before we intervene. Yes, there have been scandals, the discharging of untested residents into care homes in April and May, lack of PPE, but nowhere have relatives brought the virus into care homes. Relatives still sit outside in the cold, and wear full PPE for a window viewing as if the virus has somehow mutated to travel through glass.
