The hospitals trust for Morecambe Bay has announced it is ready to restart non-urgent operation treatments soon as they prepare to quell the ever-growing backlog. Figures from NHS England show that there are 24,002 people in the Morecambe Bay area waiting to start hospital treatment, up from 19,867 this time last year. About 39.7 per cent of people have been waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment, up from just 21.7 per cent 12 months ago. Meanwhile, more than 1,900 patients have now been waiting over a year for treatment. For this reason, trusts across the country have faced increased pressure to restart non-urgent treatment now that Covid-19 cases have seen a large decrease.
