NY Assemblyman Angelino: length of eviction moratorium is hurting landlords

(WBNG) -- State and federal eviction moratoriums are ending soon, a move some state lawmakers say is long overdue.
First enacted in March of 2020, a federal halt on evictions was created to limit the homeless population. The goal was to prevent more people living in shelters, places where coronavirus spread was higher than average.
While many lawmakers supported the idea at the time, one told 12 News Tuesday it has gone on for too long, denying landlords their necessary income.
"These are people who are small business people, have to maintain the property, have to pay for plumbers, put on roofs, all kind of things, not to mention pay for services," said State Rep. Joe Angelino (R, District 122). "Some tenants pay for utilities, electric, gas, water, and those things aren't being paid for."
