NYC rent is still too damn high — Manhattan typical monthly charges hit record $4,000, up 25% in one year

Pandemic-weary New Yorkers who fled the five boroughs at the height of the coronavirus crisis are returning to a city where the median rent reached $4,000 for the first time ever, a new report says. According to realtor Douglas Elliman, the skyscraping Manhattan rent in May was up 25% from a year earlier, when the median rent was $3,195.
